The Apostle Paul warned the Church of Corinth that they put up with another gospel, “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his trickery, your minds will be led astray from sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, this you tolerate too easily!” (2 Corinthians 11:3-4), and that anyone who preaches another evangelion (gospel in Greek) is condemned, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel (evangelion) other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!” (Galatians 1:8-9).
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a acclaimed anime that is as well known as Gundam. The story uses many symbols, themes, and terms from Christianity, such as the location of the source of life called Dogma, humans claiming they are children of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3), Eva the main mech is named after Eve in Latin, which is intriguing because Ikara Misosata takes Shinji to Dogma to visit the Author of all life, Lilith, having Shinji pilot Eva (Eve) in name of Lilith conflates the whole Jewish idea of Lilith being Adam’s first wife and Eve his second. What is more disturbing is Lilith is shown on a crucifix in this anime (see pic), which is so blasphemous cuz she is is called the second angel and source of life, but as I established in my last post, Lilith iThe Mother of Demons, Lilith is night monster demon, “The creatures of the desert will encounter jackalsAnd the hairy goat will call to its kind; Indeed, Lilith (night demon) will settle there And find herself a place of rest.” (Isaiah 34:14). That Lilith is called in this anime the source of life is antichrist, for Christ is the source of life, “In the beginning was the Word (Jesus Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God He was with God in the beginning.Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made. n Him was life, and that life was the light of men” (John 1:1-4), and “He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Colossians 1:15-20). Lilith in this anime being on a cross is even more blapsphemous, for in reality she is a fallen angel, not the Son of God who hung on a cross for our sins!
The entire series is peppered with christian symbols, explosions even in crosses and as aforementioned everything in terminology of the church. Even the chief enemy is angels, but ironically Shinji, Kei, Ikara Misato, and others battle in name of Lilith the Second Angel. This smacks of Gnostic Christianity which claims “there are seven angels, one of which is Yahweh you can worship.” (A History of The Early Church, J.W.C Wand, Chapter V: Gnosticism). The fact the Sixth Angel nearly kills everyone proves they are using the gnostic angelology in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Gnosticism is a false Christianity The Council of Nicea and many subsequent councils of the true Orthodox (right belief) church denounced. Our God is not an angel, he is greater than the angels, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
The Son Superior to Angels
For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father” ? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”
And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.”
In speaking of the angels he says, “He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire.”
But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
He also says, “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.
To which of the angels did God ever say, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet
Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:1-14. True Christianity holds to the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, Gnosticism believes there is secret or occukt knowelge when Jesus said, “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus answered. “I always taught in the synagogues and at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.,” (John 18:20) and “I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who haven’t known “the so-called secrets of Satan” —as they say—I am not putting any other burden on you..” (Revelation 2:24).
The battles in Neon Genesis Evangelion are very gory, with the mecha Eva and the angels bleeding great gallons of blood that become tidal waves. This is suppose to be perhaps symbolism of Nile turning to blood (Exodus 7:14-27), but we are told by the Lord thus, “When you spread out your hands, will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.” (Isaiah 1:15). In fact the same prophet says not to even to listen to bloodshed much less look upon it, “One who walks righteously and speaks with integrity, One who rejects unjust gain And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; One who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed And shuts his eyes from looking at evil.” (Isaiah 34:15). This series, Neon Genesis Evangelion preaches another gospel of Gnosticism which Paul says is accursed (Galatians 1:8-9), has blood shed which Isaiah says to not look or even listen to, and finally has a blasphemous false christ (Matthew 24:24) in Lilith. For these reasons I urge you as a Christian to have noting to do with this anime. Just as religion of Neo Zeon has a religion of light that replaces Jesus in Gundam Unicorn (see my post Gundam: Examined), The Covenant of Lilith and Dogma in Neon Genesis Evangelion is a antichrist message! We must not participate in anything that would take our eyes of Jesus (Hebrews 12:2) and worse pollute our minds and hearts with false heresies like Gnosticism! Amen.
