Happy Reformation Day! Reasons to Celebrate

On this day (Oct 31st), 501 years ago, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis to the Castle Church door. An act that would domino into the Protestant Reformation. It might surprise you to know that Solae Scriptura, Solae Gratia, Solus Christus, Solae Fide and Sola del Gloria did not feature in the 95 Thesis and that actually Luther affirmed the position of the pope as Vicar of Christ. The Thesis does contain the protest against the abuse of indulgences, but not because Luther saw them as antichrist, as he would later, but because people were buying blanket indulgences and ceasing in piety and penance and even forgotten my mass. Luther found a drunkard who told him he didn’t have to come for confession because he had an indulgence of absolute absolution and so no longer needed the sacrament of confession and penance. So actually the Reformation began because indulgences threatened Roman Catholic teaching by allowing s pope’s indulgence to nullify the need for Catholic confession and pen

Jesus the Way In An Era of Many ways

There are a plethora of ways these days. The landscape is filled with many gods and passions to fit every pleasure. In this Neo-Mecca, people are merging traditional religious beliefs with foreign beliefs. In a decade Chrislam, Christian Hinduism (yoga), New Age Christianity, Univeralism, and more have began to blend the One Way with many. People now have a buffet of beliefs, mixing magic with church and Buddhist philosophy into a snack of polytheist sandwich. My brother actually posed that this non-commital blend of all beliefs could be the Antichrist’s means to ban all religions, “ Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness [ b ]  is revealed—the one who brings destruction. [ c ]   4  He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God. .” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4).  If people are mixi

Wearing Crucifixes Post-Scandal

At this turbulent time in the Roman Catholic Church, wearing a Crucifix can feel tantamount to wearing the Scarlet Letter or the Mark of Shame. The scandals that have broken out in the RCC can create self consciousness about the Crucifix because it may be perceived as support of the RCC in this dark hour, and could even be perceived as condoning or even defending the scandalous behavior of the bishops and priests. At this point the concern over the conduct of priests in the RCC has reached fever pitch and I for one have seen adherents to the Catholic Faith forgoing public displays of their piety; for instance I have seen first hand the cars which were once adorned with rosaries that have the Crucifix depicting the Christ Corpus and the Mary Guadalupe removed from all vehicles. This either is a sign of fallout and an exodus from RCC or that Catholics are hiding their faith out of fear of being persecuted or being seen to support the scandals. If the reason is the latter, I fear we

“Love Only Jesus.”

In Romania, the wife of Richard Wurmbrandt was sentenced to hard labor at quarry. After being persecuted for her Christian faith for years, and kept from all family, she was allowed to see her son and speak only three words. What does a mother in that situation say? Most people would think “I love you,” is the most likely contender, with the second likely choice being “Pray For Me.” No, the words she said was “Love Only Jesus.” Of all the words this mother could have said, these three words: Love Only Jesus. Profound, yes, but true? Absolutely! She echoed the very words of the Apostle Paul, “I Count all things lost but knowing Jesus, I discard everything that I may gain Christ.” (Phillipians 3:9). Love Only Jesus. These were not Mrs. Wurmbradt’s words, but the Holy Spirit speaking through her. In this life everyone will fail you. Your pastor, favorite Christian band, best friend, spouse and all things but Jesus will disappoint you. There was a moment in Our Savior’s life where He

The Church: The Reason for the Scandals and Empty Services

Church attendance is at an all time low. Between the Catholic scandals and the Millennial rebellion to traditional church, churches are in decline. In the UK most churches either are selling their chapels and buildings or converting them into breweries and yoga studios. The Cathedrals that once dominated the Medieval and Renaissance skyline could either be hosting the next Octoberfest or turned into museums.  What has promulgated this sudden exodus? Why are so many abandoning the building? The answer is contain in the Scriptures and before this post is ended you might view the church building (ecclesia govmenti) as creepy as the haunted gothic churches in spooky tales and come to understand the ecclesia or church as simply the individuals all over the world who put their faith in Jesus Christ. To understand why there is scandal in north the Catholic and Protestant Churches; to delve into the reason behind the decline in Church attendance we must go back to Scripture. Scri
