Tending to Our Spiritual Need

In times like these we need to commune with the Lord more than ever. As people are quarantined and kept in isolation, the only way to get through it is Christ.  This is when we must move past petitions and into presence; spending time in the Trinity’s arms. Our God lives in us and we live in Him (1 John 4:15). We have access to our Abba, our Savior and Holy Spirit at any moment, “For through Him (Jesus)  we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:18), and “In Him and through faith in Him we may enter God's presence with boldness and confidence.” (Ephesians 3:12). There is no impediment to keep us from our Lord, except ourselves.  In this time when parties, events, and entertainments are shut down, we have ample time to seek and dwell in God’s presence. There is no excuse now, no pressing appointment you can use to say, “I’ll pray later.” Christ has your undivided attention, and now is the time to seize the opportunity to grow in intimacy with Immanuel.

God’s Entertainment

While many hunker down in their homes during CV-19 Crisis, streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and more are keeping people entertained. It is blessing that in this time of quarantine and isolation we have access to these streaming services and the internet. But if you need a break from your binge watching, I recommend another show.  God The Trinity created many marvels like the mountains, the seas, and of course the animals which are quite entertaining. If you are permitted to go on walks and leave your shelter, I recommend the birds, which with their preparations for Spring are akin to a soap opera or Pixar film. I watched a sparrow family in some low brush dance about, one caught a bug and kept slamming it on the ground fussing, it gave me a chuckle as I watched the patient mate wait for her hunter husband to make the bug a meal, apparently this was one of his first  catches, because he seemed to struggle with bug wiggling out of his mout

Keeping Calm in the CV-19 Storm

Right now many people are panicking over CV-19, known as the Coronavirus. Italy, China, Denmark, El Salvador, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, Spain , California, New York, and Washington  in the US are on lockdown quarantine. The death toll is at 15,000 worldwide, and while that is a major concern, to put it in perspective, over 290,000 to 600,000 people die worldwide of the Flue Virus each year according to WHO.  Most countries are enacting Social distancing of 6 feet or 1.829 meters . People are not allowed to touch anyone who is not family or in their designated party. Many are on house quarantine or what is called Shelter in Place. The isolation is bound to cause some cabin fever symptoms. There is concern about keeping calm when you are forced to be apart from people.  How do we as Christians weather quarantine, when we are called to be a community and to evangelize the lost? The obvious answer is cyberministry (online, internet, web). Most churches have closed and

The Red Letterists

The Red Letterists believe Jesus’ actual quoted words in red in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Revelation are the most authoritative, and surpass in importance the epistles of Paul, Peter, John, and James.  This means when Jesus says, “But you are not to be called rabbi (teacher), for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ.   The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted,” (Matthew 23:8-11), but the apostles chose to separate people into teachers and servants / deacons, “So the Twelve summoned all the disciples and said, “It is unacceptable for us to neglect teaching the word of God in order to wait on tables. Therefore, brothers, select from among you seven men confirmed to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will appoint th

Jesus’ Name in Aramaic

There has been a trend to render Jesus’ name Hebrew, יֵשׁוּעַ , Yeshua. The problem is neither Christ nor his apostles, nor the Jews in 30-33 A.D. spoke Hebrew, they spoke Aramaic. A ramaic is the oldest language on earth and was the language Jesus spoke. In fact, the oldest Old Testament is the Septuagint a Greco translation around 132 B.C.E. (165 Years Before Christ)that was translated from Aramaic. The Masoretic Text, The Hebrew Old Testament most Bibles use, dates from 7th to 10th Century A.D. (Medieval Times).  This translation does not cross reference with the words of Christ in the New Testament which are Aramaic and Koine Greek.  If the Aramaic was what Jesus spoke, then by what name would have been called? Jesus’ name in Aramaic is Isho or Eesho, spelled ܝܫܘܥ . That is the name of our Lord in Aramaic! He would have heard his name in this dialect, “Hail Isho or Eesho!” as well as the Greek, Ἰ ησο ῦ ς , Iesous.  Aramaic is disappearing, only a few people are endeavo

How To Celebrate St. Patrick’s

This March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day. For many it is a time of carousing, drinking, and partying. The meaning of the holiday is lost behind green beer, leprechauns, and pots of gold. The real person, Patricas or Patrick was a Briton who was captured by Irish pirates.  During his captivity he developed a close bond with Christ who led him fo escape and make 200 Mile trek home. But the story did not end there. Patrick was ordained a priest and to chagrin of his more pompous than pious brethren felt a call to go back to the place of his captivity and preach the gospel to the Irish.  It is important to understand that Patrick was part of the Anglo Church, one that deviated from Roman Rite, as evidenced in this Q and A:  “Augustine of Canterbury’s third question: Since there is but one faith , why are the uses of Churches so different, one use of Mass being observed in the Roman Church, and another in the Churches of Gaul ? Answer of the blessed pope Gregory: Your Fraternity k

Being

So many brothers and sisters in Christ estimate their worth in what they can do for God. They value themselves if they are good ministers, parents, children, employees, employers, and stewards of their finances. Whole none of these things are bad, we all want to achieve some progress; but estimating our worth on these things is sheer folly. At some point you won’t be able to minster in the way you are acxustomed, you will find your parental days challenged and then sidelined, as a child you will fail your parents, as an employee you will lose zeal, as an employer reach an unsurmountable obstacle, and finally debt will rattle your financial stewardship. Gaging our worth on transient and even shifting paradigms is a recipe for disaster.  Our true worth is contained in our species name, Human Being. Being, or to be, that is our value. Your existence, not your exploits or experience is what matter.  You were designed by God the Trinity to Be; your existence and life brings God and o

In The Perfect Will of God

There is a notion in prosperity doctrine churches that you know you are in God’s perfect will if all is going well for you in life, and you feel good about it. I find this intriguing, because our Lord and God Jesus Christ was in the perfect will of the Father, Himself and the Holy Spirit when he was scourged, beaten, torn to pieces, nailed to a cross, and hung as his body crushed and affixated Him. We are certain none of the crowds would have labeled Jesus as doing well, even His disciples at the time, and we can be sure He did not feel good being flogged and crucified. And yet by doing this Christ died for all our sins, and through His sacrifice and faith in Him we have eternal life! The moment of Christ’s greatest discomfort on earth was the moment of our greatest comfort as now salvation is available to all  who have faith in and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! (John 3:16, John 6:40, Philippians 3:9, 1 John 4:15, Acts 4:10-12, Acts 15:11).  Contrary to the teachin

Having A Difficult Time Praying?

Praying can be hard in the 21st Century. We have so many distractions, surfing the internet, streaming services like Netflix, video games, and etc. In fact, much of this tech has rewired minds to be ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) which causes short attention spans and an inability to be still, which is a hallmark of prayer, “Be still and know I am God.” (Psalm 46:10). In fact Jesus told the raging storm, “When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm,” (Mark 4:39), something we need Him to do with our inner storms today.  There is evidence in brain chemistry studies that video games rewires brains to be ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD. The constant exposure to games, shows, and more seems to effect children as their mind grows. Has perhaps a side effect been to uproot the ease of praying?  A relative of mine when we all pray can’t stop fidgeting and shaking their
