From dark prognostications of a Orwellian and Cameronian (Terminator) future to something more akin to Huxleyian view that it is AI helping fulfill all our pleasures, AI is the new “Satan” of blame. Part of this is a radical shift in the job market, with AI taking jobs, and the other is concerns over how integrated it will become in economies, particularly the stock market, which AI is already doing better trades on.   The Church has a long history since at least 4th Century of repressing sexuality. The obsession with Virginity and the insistence on Vows of Chastity to be monastics helped foster thousands of years of sexual control over Europe and Middle East. Inventions like chastity belts that lock a woman’s vagina up, and even male ones to beat their testicles in a sadistic way to keep them from masturbating ought to go down in history as torture devices. Despite the efforts to stay ever connected through social media and other avenues online, people feel the bitter isolation inside. The Scriptures confront us ever with that we are not alone, that our Lord is always there, “I am with you always,  even  to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). While this is a comfort spiritually, the truth is that we crave connection and to feel some sort of emotional touch. The same God after all said, “It is not good for man to be alone.” (Genesis 2:18) and so created Eve for Adam. The problem is even if you have your Eve or Adam, and you of course have Christ, loneliness will find you. Part of this is that we do not feel the fulfillment of being fully known. While certainly, our Lord knows us fully, he formed us in the womb, but loneliness is on our side, that is how we are receiving.   There has been a very destructive concept that found it’s way into the Church through monasticism and asceticism. The idea that body is flesh and vile, and that spirit is what must be cultivated. This comes from a heresy known as Gnosticism that claimed a duality of body and spirit, that the body was evil and the spirit was good. This very dangerous concept not only survived in spin offs called Mainchaelism which had Augustine of Hippo for a time, and Catharism which was rampant in France in the Middle Ages, but it is in direct violation of the Incarnation of God, our Lord Jesus Christ who the Nicene Creed affirms was Born of the Virgin Mary, who did have sex later with Joseph her husband and had kids, “But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus..” (Matthew 1:25), but she was a virgin when she had Jesus.   There is this great song by Creed, song by Scott Stapp that goes, “What’s this Life For?!” It’s a introspective piece meant to urge the listener to take stock of their own life through self examination. I recently watched The Neon Genesis Evangelion Rebuilds (1.0, 2.22, 3.0, and 3.0+1.0), four movies, not the original bleak series. While I was put off at first by Lilith and the Kabala elements with the angels, the overall message of the story is very profound and Christian. Shinji, the main pilot of Eva 01, a mecha Kaiju (giant robot monster like Godzilla) like creation to fight the angels bent on mankind’s destruction is traumatized by having lost his mother at three years old, and his Father Gendo ignores him except to exploit his prowless in Eva mechs. There is a very intriguing verse in the epistle of Peter that says, “like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5). What are these sacrifices? I admit I had to do something research. Most believe it is priestly duties of fasting, prayer, worship, and alms. I however, found the Got Answers list to be rather more in tune with other Scriptures, “Spiritual sacrifices include the believer's prayers, praises, will, bodies, time, and talents.” Of those that stood out to me talents, for Jesus gives a prable of the talents, which many view as money, but I believe it purposefully named to fit what it means today, “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property.   The devil is cunning and crafty, the apostle Peters tells us, “The devil is like a lion going about looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8). The problem is that Scripture documents Satan and his ways in depth in Ezekiel 28:10-28, Isaiah 14:11-14. Genesis 3:1-19, Revelation 12:4-12, Matthew 4:1-10, and etc. We have in our Bibles his tactics well described and the methods in which to resist so that he shall flee (James 4:7). His companion, who I am convinced is Ashteroth, Isis, and all chief goddesses next to the Baal’s equivalent in each culture, who is goddesses of fertility and war, her true name Lilith, is but in one Scripture, “Lilith, the night demon, who is in wilderness, there she will find rest.” (Isaiah 34:14).
