Scripture Alone: Proving Why Solae Scriptura is True

Solae Scriptura means; “scripture alone, and is a theological doctrine held by some Christian denominations that the Christian scriptures are the sole infallible rule of faith and practice,” (Sola Scriptura, Wikipedia). Which is proven by Scripture itself: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures , that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures .” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) This proves New Testament Writings were considered Scripture by the apostles in their own times!   “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” (Romans 15:4)

The Precious Blood of Jesus

Blood is precious. It sustains our life, without it our heart stops and we perish. Blood is life, “for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the LORD. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible.” (Leviticus 17:11). Perhaps that is why seeing it shed makes us uneasy, because if there is crimson pools on the ground or walls, we know a person has lost too much and is dead.   Our bodies house the red matter, that fuels our brains, hearts, veins, and organs. It is unseen until something causes us fo bleed. Every drop is precious and our instinct is to plug the wound with salve and bandage. The Divine did the opposite. God became a man, and opened His body as a living sacrifice, His blood poured out of His side, “Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.” (John 19:34). Christ did not covet His blood, but

Deus Vult: Can We Know God’s Will?

One can hardly forget a battlecry. During the Crusades those who “took the cross” to fight in the holy wars would declare “Deus lo Vult” which translates “God Wills It!” It seems presumptuous by our Protestant standards, leaving most of us to settle with the lest ponpus statement, “Deo Volente” (if: God Be Willing). The parodies and memes that abound with a crusader shouting “God Wills It!” has become a staple for mocking those who get a touch of ‘holy zeal.’  Setting aside the memes of gallant crusaders, the question remains, can we know God’s Will at all? Is there any evidence we can decipher the Divine? Or are we completely in the blind?  Scripture has some answers. It tells us we can know God’s Will in one prism for sure: salvation.  Jesus was interrupted during a teachng. He was told His mother and family had arrived, to which He said:    Jesus asked, "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers? Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my br

The Only Pope I Quote

Cross of Canterbury It is no secret that I am Reformed. That I hold to the Holy Scriptures and believe the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today. I tend to be very critical of the Roman Catholic Church. I find many of the practices in the Romanite Church to be deuterocanonical, and as Luther called them “extravagandic.” The doctrines of penance, purgatory, and prayers & veneration (worship) of the Virgin Mary and the Saints are stripped of legitimacy by only s handful of verses:  “be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith” (Philippians 3:9)  “And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27) “There is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the Son of Man Christ Jesus,” (1 Timothy 2:5)  “Jesus replied, "The Scriptures say, 'You must worship the LORD your Go

Every Tear is Precious to God

We often attribute the major moments and interventions to God the Trinity. Erroneously the Church can think the Lord is content to move only mountains and slay giants before us. We can forget He is a tender God who does not miss a moment of our lives, who knows every hair that has been on our head, “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows,” (Luke 12:7) and who collects every tear in His bottle, “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” (Psalm 56:8 NIV).  The tendency is to think our Lord God Trinity as One concerned with the more dramatic events in the world, and while He is involved in those, He cares about your aching heart, He knows every sorrow in your soul like hairs upon you head that He numbered! When you sob in solitude, our Savior is there, as present with you as with me and Christians at the same time; relating int

God Sups With Us

There is something comforting about the Last Supper. The scene of God Incarnate eating with His Disciples is endearing. There is an intimacy about breaking bread with The Author and Bread of Life Himself. In the east it is believed that supping, sharing a meal with someone is intimate and for those you trust. Have you ever tried to eat with someone you hold enmity with? The stomach ties in knots and the mouth fills with acid.   The scene of our Lord eating with His Disciples echoes what the Almighty did in Genesis and Exodus:  “The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. 2  Abraham looked up and saw three men (Holy Trinity, Matthew 28:19) standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. 3  He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my Lord,do not pass your servant by. 4  Let a little water be brought, and then you may
