Whipped For Us

There are two instances of whipping in the New Testament. The First is Jesus making a whip out of cords and driving out the money changers:  “So Jesus made a whip out of cords , and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.” (John 2:15-17).  The second instance of whipping is Jesus himself receiving the whip for our transgressions: “Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged with lead tipped whips. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face.” (John 19:1-3, cross ref Matthew 27:26) Jesus whipped the religious order but was whipped

Words Through Images

I believe adamantly in preaching and teaching, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (Romans 10:14). We are called by our Hod and Savior to make disicples (), to teach people the evangelion and help them in their faith walk. All that being said, there is a time  to let images speak. In an age when vitriol and hyperbola is preventable in the news cycle and readers find themselves exasperated by cut throat articles, it can be centering to stare at Christ Crucified, a Crucifix. To remember that as Jesus died for our sins the crowds were mocking him and slinging their zingers. That it was also a age of unbridled intolerance and hate; and that God stepped into it and let His hands and feet be nailed to a cross for our sakes.  Sometimes the noise of this world drowns our besieged souls. The sniping and the endless arguments drown us and

Star Trek Seven of Nine and Crucifix

Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek has always contained religious themes and influences. The Vulcans share much commonality with Jews and even made Shema with their hand. The Borg have resemble to a conquest religion and the Klingons have a religion of light m, Khalless, whom they worship. For the first time I saw Our Faith, Christianity, displayed! In Star Trek: Voyager, Season 4, Episode 21: The Omega Directive, Capt. Janeway and her crew are tasked with neutralizing omnipotent and all powerful Omega particles that can be harness for ultimate travel or destroy travel, warp speed, space raptures and etc. Near the end, Seven of Nine, a Borg rescue, gazed into Omega as it stabilizes and sees perfection and afterwards she is found on holodeck gazing at a Crucifix, our God and Savior on the cross dying for our sins (1 Peter 2:24, 1 Peter 3:18). Seven tells Capt. Janeway that she when she watched Omega it was watching her and that she dismissed religious explanations for this phenomenon as “t

The I AM

Jesus is The I AM, the Lord who told Moses “I AM that I AM.” (Exodus 3:14). Many times Jesus spoke to people and declare Himself the I AM God: “As Jesus said "I AM he," they all drew back and fell to the ground!” (John 18:6)  “Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” (John 8:58)  “You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I AM.” (John 13:13)  “Jesus said to him, "I AM the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6)  “I AM the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.” (John 15:1) “I AM the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)  The word I AM means Yahweh and so Jesus is using this name for Himself and saying I am as we use it in our vocabulary to me this is who I am, and thus Christ is saying I am I AM, I am the Lord God made flesh. The I AM is IMMANUEL, God

On What is Worthy and True

Our time on this earth is too short to be preoccupied with outwitting the dark powers. There are people who spend the bulk of their life fighting demons and learning the devil’s stratagems. They open the studies of the Dark Side and fill their minds with shadows and before long they become as mentally ill as the monsters they are trying to defeat.  Life is short and we should be spending It with our eyes fixed upon the Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 12:2). Why waste valuable seconds on The schemes of Satan?! Instead shake off the serpents and turn your mind to what is pure and worthy,”   Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8). Too often brothers and sisters get seduced into trying to stop the sinister serpents with knowledge of their tactics, arts, and histories. This only leads to bondage. Instead t
