Jan Hus and the Hussites

Jan Hus or John Hus was the Bohemian Reformer who contended with Roman  Catholic Orthodoxy, and advocated a more Protestant view of faith and Christian Living. However, his views did become radically Non-conformist and he believed a dangerous idea:, “The idea of Hus was different. His conception of the nature of the true Church was very similar to that held by many Non-conformists of to-day. He was a great believer in predestination. All men, he said, from Adam onwards, were divided into two classes: first, those predestined by God to eternal bliss; second, those fore-doomed to eternal damnation. The true Church of Christ consisted of those predestined to eternal bliss, and no one but God Himself knew to which class any man belonged. From this position a remarkable consequence followed. For anything the Pope knew to the contrary, he might belong himself to the number of the damned. He could not, therefore, be the true Head of the Church; he could not be the Vicar of Christ; an

Moravian Piety

The only truly successful Ecumenical movement took place at Hernnhut, Germany, in the year 18th Century. A nobleman names Count Nicklaus Von Zinzendorf opened his land to refugees from Bohemia and other parts of the world. A Lutheran, Zinzendorf possesses Ecumenic sympathies, believing all Christians who placed their faith in Jesus Christ weither Huguenot, Catholic, Pietist, Baptist,  Reformed, Lutheran and etc all should be treated as kinsmen in the faith. His radical ideas would proodice a movement that would unite churches of all denominations with a common goal deep piety and prayer. From the count’s land came a prayer revolution where members devoted to praying seven times a day which then transformed into a 24/7 prayer house that would last for a century!  The zeal of Zinzendorf’s company of interdenominational followers led to suspicion and outrage by the Lutheran elite. It seems whenever there is unity and success the familiar giant of jealousy and envy awakens. To as

Protestantism and Catholicism Compared (update and post)

When I use the word Protestant, I do not mean it in denominational sense, rather in that The Protestants during The Reformation affirmed and proclaimed that salvation was found by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. When I use the word Protestant, I mean a Christian believer who trusts and believes Jesus Christ has made the total propitiation and sacrifice for all sin, and that faith in Him equals and results in eternal life (John 6:40). The word Protestant as it is used in this post means a Christian who believes Jesus Christ is God and has made all the necessary sacrifice for sin, and believes that the Holy Bible alone is what we base our theology, doctrine, and practices on. When I use the word Protestant or Protestantism, I mean so in this sense, not to reference denominations ranging from Anglican to Presbyterian to Lutheran to Evangelical to Methodist and beyond, which fastly slipping away from Gospel as written in the New Testament and promoting destructive heresies
