Man of Steel: Abba Father *Spoilers*

Often I can write all my sentiments about a film in one post. However, Man of Steel is an exception. I recently went and saw it a second time. This time I paid more attention to Kal-El/Clark Kent/ Superman's relationship with his fathers Jor-El and Jonathan Kent. Kevin Costner plays Jonathan, who in the flashbacks lectures Clark on how he is different and must keep his true identity and abilities a secret. Jonathan reminds me of Joseph and how he must have spoken to Jesus Christ growing up. I can only imagine how difficult it would have been to try and raise God. Jonathan tells Clark in one scene, "You are my son, but you have another father and he sent you here for a reason." This is exactly what I think Joseph might have said to Jesus in vulnerable moment. We have to remember that our Lord and Savior had to adapt to our world in his flesh vessel. He was use to being omnipotent and omnipresent. He had operated outside of time and was not bound by a body with limits. G

The Pope: A New Hope? Nope...

Catholics at the Holy See in Rome were ecstatic when Pope Francis I was chosen by the cavalcade of Cardinals to be Holy Father. The media became enamored and it seemed this Jesuit would lead a reformation within the Vatican itself and show the world what pure Christianity looks like. Pope Francis has been seen blessing the poor, washing the feet of unbelievers and living in his old apartment not the Vatican Estate. It seemed for once,  the Viscar of Christ was a man of true conviction. Then came his speech yesterday and the new hope that Catholics and Christians had was reduced to nothing. Here is what Pope Francis said: "The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! 'Father, the atheists?' Even the atheists. Everyone! And this Blood makes us children of God of the first class. We are created children in the likeness of God and the Blood of Christ has redeemed us all. And we all have a duty to do good

Double Standards

I'm quite fed up with the dichotomy of our society. I've been fascinated by the Crusades and therefore have wanted to discuss them and debate them with people. To my dismay, the usual response to the Holy Wars in Palestine and Europe is a recitation straight from Runciman[1] that they were expeditions led by war mongering feudalists who's thirst for blood and brutality was insatiable. I am aghast that so many are disgusted by the Crusaders when they honor the Romans who invented crucifixion and conquered the world in the name of their gods with several Caesars claiming to be sons of god. I meet people who are enchanted by the Celts and Vikings. The Celts were a pagan people who committed regular human sacrifices and the Vikings raped, pillaged, and murdered innocent villagers and churchmen in the name of Oiden. Then there is the Greeks, everyone loves the Greeks who are known for their philosophers Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, and Erasmus. However, the Greeks were so dep

Messiah Of Steel: A Man Of Steel Review *Spoilers*

Many of the superheroes that were created by Marvel and DC Comics had ties to the Bible. The greatest allegory has been sown into a red S and continues to captivate believers and unbelievers to this day. Superman has had no shortage of fans and debates over wither he or other heroes are the greatest continues to wage on. I myself have never been partial to Superman, I always felt as child that he was too incredible and too invincible. The villains he faced seemed one-dimensional and never  as compelling as Batman's Joker or Spider-Man's Doc Ock. However, as child I was blind to the messianic message that was wrapped in the red and blue suit of this superhero. Man of Steel is a reboot. After the mediocre ratings and revenues from Superman Returns , the big wigs in Hollywood decided to give the Kryptonian Crusader another rebirth. To ensure the success of this reboot Christopher Nolan, the mastermind behind The Dark Knight Trilogy was brought on to produce and offer adv

Choosing Christ

Many Christians are elated when miracles are happening and when the presence of The Holy Spirit can easily be felt. There are charismatic movements and churches that spend all their time trying to tap into the presence of the Most High. This is a noble aim, for we should commune with Christ and be caught in the presence of the Holy Ghost. However, being addicted to the feelings produced by God's presence can be to our own spiritual peril. While many believers love the mountain highs and cloud nine experiences of their faith, they should remember that a valley is coming. To quote the great theologian C.S. Lewis, "I don't think God particularly wants us to be happy. I think he wants us to grow up and to do that we need pain. Pain is God's megaphone to rouse a deaf world." (Shadowlands, 1993). The presence of Christ in our lives is important, but what if it ceases? If God was to suddenly shut the valve to the feelings we so enjoy in His presence off what wou
