The Greek Name of Jesus: Ἰησοῦς Χριστός Iesous Christos

There is much obsession over the name of Jesus in Hebrew, Yeshua. However, this name was never used when our Lord and Saviour walked the earth during His First Coming. Hebrew was not the common language of the time, most Hebrews spoke Aramaic, Hebrew was not fashionable at time and was only used in limit areas like Sanhedrin Courts. In 30 to 33 A.D., la langue française, the international language of the time was Greek. The Romans knew Greek, and the Hebrews knew Greek. Jesus name in Hebrew is Ἰησοῦς or Iesous. This name, Iesous was used by the Disciples James, John, Peter, and Paul. The entire New Testament was written in Coine Greek, and so Jesus name would have appeared in Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the Epistles of Colossians and 1 & 2 Corinthians as Ἰησοῦς  or Iesous. This Greek name of Jesus is important because the original Gospels and Epistles, and even Revelation on Patmos would have used Iesous for Jesus' name and it would have been full Jesus Christ: Ἰησοῦς Χριστός. Just spelling it in the original Greek is thrilling!

Now the Latin name of Jesus is Iesus which comes from Iesous (Greek). It is conceivable that Jesus was called Iesus by Pontius Pilate during his hearing (John 19:1-11). It is also conceivable that the church in Rome called Jesus by name Iesus because it is Latin; and Latin was language of Roman Empire and surely the Roman people heard of Jesus as Iesus because that would have been the conviction title Jesus was given by Pilate (John 18 and Matthew 27). Thus the definitive name of Jesus we can be sure He was called by is Iesous and Iesus, and Iesus translates into Jesus in Anglo English Latin translation. Thus Jesus is the real name of Our Lord, God, and Savior, for Jesus came from Iesus and Iesus from Greek Iesous. I have spoken about the name of Jesus before, but it disturbs me that there is a quest, nay a invidious plot to rename Jesus Yeshua, when there is not certainty He was ever called Yeshua, a Hebrew name, and Hebrew was not used in the time of Jesus. We thus can be certain Iesous, which becomes Jesus, is the name of God Incarnate (John 1:1-14), and Emmanuel (Immanuel): God with us. I believe it is important that we revive Jesus name in Greek, you say it as Iesous: ee-ay-sooce'.

I however, do not believe we should cease using the name Jesus, this is Christ's name, it comes from Iesus and Iesous. It is at name of Jesus all shall confess and bow, "that at the name of Jesus (Iesous) every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ (Ἰησοῦς Χριστός) is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:10-11). Jesus is Christ's Name, and Iesous and Iesus are His Name too in other languages; The Fathe'rs name in Greek is Pater πατήρ, πατρός, ὁ and is Patris in Latin: In nomni et Patris, et Fili, et Spiritus Sancti Amen (In Name of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Amen). The Holy Spirit's name in Greek is ἅγιος, ία, ον πνεῦμα, ατος, τό or hagios pneuma (hag'-ee-os, pnyoo'-mah)and in Latin Spiritus Sancti/Sanctus.
Everyone knows the name Jesus, and that is name by which we are saved (Acts 16:31, ). I merely add the Greek Name as another name you can call ipon Him in addition to Alpha and Omega (Revelation 1:18), The Word of God (John 1:1-5), Immanuel/Emmanuel (Matthew 1:23), and His name is Jesus (in the Greek Iesous, Matthew 1:21).

Jesus is our God (Colossians 2:9), God in Incarnate/in body (John 1:1-5, 1 John 4:1-3), and  the Son of God (1 John 4:15). Keep calling on His name which is Jesus. I merely wanted to share His name in Greek that is often forgotten and yet it is what you would have seen in Paul's letters, the Four Gospels, and rest of whole New Testament which was written in Greek and sent to predominately Greek Churches, Roman Churches, and Jewish Christians; because as aforementioned Greek was international language, like France was and English is now.

Dispensationalism

John Nelson Darby (1800-1882) was a man who did two things, he took 70th week of the Book of Daniel and stretched out to the End Times, and he was the father of  Dispensationalism , a belief system that God dispenses different peoples with separate blessings and covenants. According to Darb'ys doctrine of Dispensationalism, God dispenses different covenants. There are total of seven dispensations that divide the history of man: I. Dispensation of Innocence (prior to the Fall, "Do not east of the Fruit of Good and Eve, Eden), II. Dispensation of Conscience ( You must assuage guilt and sin with blood sacrifices.) III. Dispensation of Human Government (Multiply and Subdue the world, example the Tower of Babel Gen 11:1-9, and Genesis 1:28). IV. Dispensation of the Promise (Dwell in Canaan, Jerusalem) V. Dispensation of the Law ("Obey the Law of Moses and the Prophets"). VI. Dispensation of Grace (The Church, Jesus Christ has come...

Jesus’ Name in Aramaic

There has been a trend to render Jesus’ name Hebrew, יֵשׁוּעַ , Yeshua. The problem is neither Christ nor his apostles, nor the Jews in 30-33 A.D. spoke Hebrew, they spoke Aramaic. A ramaic is the oldest language on earth and was the language Jesus spoke. In fact, the oldest Old Testament is the Septuagint a Greco translation around 132 B.C.E. (165 Years Before Christ)that was translated from Aramaic. The Masoretic Text, The Hebrew Old Testament most Bibles use, dates from 7th to 10th Century A.D. (Medieval Times).  This translation does not cross reference with the words of Christ in the New Testament which are Aramaic and Koine Greek.  If the Aramaic was what Jesus spoke, then by what name would have been called? Jesus’ name in Aramaic is Isho or Eesho, spelled ܝܫܘܥ . That is the name of our Lord in Aramaic! He would have heard his name in this dialect, “Hail Isho or Eesho!” as well as the Greek, Ἰ ησο ῦ ς , Iesous.  Aramaic is disappearing, only a few peop...

Concerns About The Jerusalem Cross

When you travel to Jerusalem, it is the custom of a pilgrim to by a Jerusalem Cross as souvenir. Its suppose to represent Jerusalem, and Christianity there. Even Protestant brothers and sisters have adopted the Jerusalem Cross symbol as a missionary symbol, the four extra crosses being to four corners of the world, “And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” (Matthew 24:31). The problem is that the Jerusalem Cross has a very dark history spiritually. Yes it was used like French Cross as a counter to Nazi swastika during the 1940’s which is ironic since one variant of Cross Potent which is in the Jerusalem Cross was a swastika called the grammadion which was a talisman for luck and good fortune: My greater concern is the crusader theology tied to the Jerusalem Cross. The Jerusalem Cross as we know it was created when the Kingdom of Jerusalem was formed during The Fi...
