Many scholars and exegetists will claim that Sin came into the world by Man, by Adam. that the codex for Original Sin is Patriarchal, that this explains aggression in man, and why wars happen. This is false, sin did not first come into the world by a man, rather a partnership between The Deceiver Satan and the first Woman Eve:
“You will not surely die,” the serpent told the woman.“For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. When the woman saw that the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eyes, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom, she took the fruit and ate it. She also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.” (Genesis 3:4-7). It was Eve, not Adam that participated first in this disobedience. She certainly was being Deceived by the Serpent who is Satan, “And the great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.” (Revelation 12:9). And she even blames him when God asks her why she went against God’s edict, “Then the LORD God asked the woman, “What have you done?” “The serpent deceived me,” she replied. “That’s why I ate it.” (Genesis 3:13). The blame shifting dynamic was Adam said Eve gave it to him, though He knew what it was, and Eve had partook of it because of Satan. There is no mistake that Tempter, the One who planted the lies that led Eve to Sin was Satan, so he deserves a great deal of the blame. I do feel sorry for Eve, she was being led astray, while Adam knew better and that is probably why he is often seen in a worse light than Eve; he knew God’s command. The problem is that many theologians place the blame squarely on Adam for the Fall. Even the Apostle Paul says in one verse, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned..” (Romans 5:12). However, Paul also says elsewhere, “And it was not Adam who was deceived, but it was the woman (Eve) who was deceived and became a transgressor.” (1 Timothy 2:14), and “I am afraid, however, that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may be led astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11:3). There is blame to be shared between Adam and Eve and Satan for the Fall. However, there has been a concentrated effort to remove Eve’s culpability and that many forget that she was in fact the first human to sin. She partook first, and then seduced Adam, giving him the Forbidden Fruit (Genesis 3:6). Granted Adam knew better for God had told him before Eve was made that He was not to partake of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil; but come on people, a naked woman was asking him to partake, “Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame,” (Genesis 2:25); how many husbands can testify, “happy wife, happy life,” and the pressure to do what a woman wants because they want to still have sex with their wives. Now I am not saying the Scripture even says sex was a factor in Adam sinning after his wife, but we know God filled adam and Eve with desire for sex and to procreate in paradise before The Fall, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply in number (by sexual intercourse of course, ‘Then Adam had intercourse with his wife, and she became pregnant. She bore a son and said, "By the LORD's help I have gotten a son." So she named him Cain’ -Genesis 4:1); fill the earth and subdue it.” (Genesis 1:26-28). So it stands to reason Adam was faced with the choice, lose his lover and counterpart or join her in disobedience. Granted the Scripture does not confirm these notions and motives, but we cannot ignore the possibility when God already gave them a sex drive, and both are perpetually naked at the time.
Woman was once so associated with Original Sin that Jewish Talmud actually says,
“Praise be to God that he has not created me a gentile; praise be God that created me not a woman; praise be God that He has not created me an ignorant man,” (Menahot 43b, This was a thanksgiving prayer of Jews at the time of Jesus), “It is well for those whose children are male, but ill for those whose children are female . . . At the birth of a boy all are joyful, but at the birth of a girl all are sad . . . When a boy comes into the world, peace comes into the world; when a girl comes, nothing comes . . . Even the most virtuous of women is a witch.” (Niddah 31b).
An apocryphal verse from Eccliasticus says, “From woman a beginning of sin; and because of her all die” (Ecc. 25:24). These Talmudic pronouncements are very extreme, because you cannot get more men except by woman; and it was by a Woman that Jesus Came into World to save us. What I use these Talmudic verses to impart is that there was a time that people viewed Eve’s Sin as an important facet of the Fall. A Church Father named Ireneus expounding on these words said, “Having become disobedient, she (Eve) was made the cause of death, both to herself and to the entire human race.” Another Church Father, Tertullian said, “Do you not know that you are an Eve? God’s verdict on the sex still holds good and the sex’s guilt must still hold also. You are the devil’s gateway, you are the avenue to the forbidden tree. You are the first deserter from the law divine. It was you who persuaded him [Adam] whom the devil himself had not strength to assail. So lightly did you esteem God’s image. For your deceit, for death, the very Son of God had to perish.” There is some error there, in that Adam was right there as Satan deceived Eve (Genesis 3:6) and so was tempted and assailable; but perhaps Tertullan was making point Satan did not try to deceive Adam before Eve existed when there was only Adam because God put him asleep and made Eve after how long a period we do not know in Paradise (see Genesis 2:18-26). It is for this reason Eve bears a special designation as The Gateway to Original Sin because she took the fruit first and handed it to Adam. That is why I am beginning to understand though do not approve of the focus on Mary (my problem is how they make her Redeematrix, and equate her as Savioress, when Jesus is the Savior, though I do agree she is a vessel or Gateway through which The Savior came and so is unique among women), Jesus’ Mother in Eastern and Roman Catholic Circles. Catholics call Mary the Second Eve, that she unlike Eve agrees to God’s Will, “Then Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel left her,” (Luke 1:38), and The Salvation of All Humans, Male and Female, Man and Woman comes through her womb, that is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!
All Daughters of Eve become a new creation through Christ, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come,” (2 Corinthians 5:17), and that in Christ there is no longer a distinction, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus..” (Galatians 3:28). That when a Woman becomes a believer in Jesus and His Disciple for Life she is no longer under Eve’s Curse to do the bidding of the Serpent and lead more to sin and hell. But if a woman strays into witchcraft, and walks away from Jesus through practicing sin, she becomes an Eve Reborn, and is offering the forbidden fruit to both women and men; essentially becoming an ambassador of Satan. Sons of Adam are not exempt, many men serve Satan as Satanists, Atheists, Antichrists, and other offices; so I am not singling out woman as the only sinner, but I am pointing out that before a woman is the choice: continue to be a Daughter of Eve or become a Daughter of Christ; be like Eve in Garden who is gateway to sin, or be like Mary, a gateway to salvation by being witness and ambassador for Christ, “Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20). Amen.
