My introduction to the Dragon Ball Universe was with Dragon Ball Z (DBZ) on Toonami, a anime time slot on Cartoon Network. My first foray into the Saiyan conflicts was Android Saga and Cell Saga, which arguably are the best sagas. I then via a friend watched most of Dragon Ball with Goku as a child, then movies like Cooler, Kakarot, and other motion pictures as I watched the Buu Saga on Toonami and covered The Frieza Saga at my friend’s to fill in gaps. Then I watched Dragon Ball GT, and at that time loved the Americano opening rap theme, and the Super Saiyan 4 forms. I watched some Dragon Ball Kai and then I watched most of Dragon Ball Super with Beerus and the Super Saiyan God form.
Dragon Ball majors in the absurd. The power levels are always surpassed by some new form reveal and the best villian is a debate among fans, whither Frieza, Cooler, Cell, Kid Buu, Majin Vegeta, Dabura, Beerus, Zamusa, Goku Black, and etc. The fact Saiyans like Goku, and Vegeta are monkey humaniods, who even have a giant ape form plays on Darwinism, that the most powerful race is ape humans. The dragon balls and wishes via Shinron, a great dragon in the sky is tied to dragon gods of China and Japan: Dragon King, Tianlong, Guang, Qin, Run, and Shun and Watatsumi / Ryūjin.
There is a Mr. Satan who is a wrestler. The creator of Dragon Ball invented him to mock Christians and their issues with Satan. Well of course we have issues with Satan, he tempted our ancestors to sin (Genesis 3) and sin affects our world, he is also The Accuser of Brethren (Revelation 12:10) and the enemy of our Lord Jesus! Mr. Satan has a daughter named Videl which is devil rearranged. There is even a being who look like the traditional devil called Dabura or Spike The Devil Man.
Perhaps the most alarming aspect of the Dragon Ball franchise is that anger is the path to power. Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Future Trunks, Broyl, and others all transform into their Super Saiyan forms via channeling their Ki or Qi which is Chi energy which is a real pagan religious energy in Taoism. Well to tap into this Ki the Saiyans scream in anger and wrath, channeling their rage like a Sith Lord in Star Wars. This is alarming because anger is not the way of a Christian, “for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God,” (James 1:20), “Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools,” (Ecclesiastes 7:9), “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice”, (Ephesians 4:31), “But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth,” (Colossians 3:8), “Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man,” (Proverbs 22:24), “A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention,” (Proverbs 16:32), and our God is slow to anger, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.” (Psalm 103:8).
The Dragon Ball Sagas also have a hierarchy of false gods. At the top are twin children called Omnikings, omni as in like omnipresent or omnipotent (all powerful), but they are annoying kids who pit the most powerful beings against each other to amuse themselves like a baby rattle. The Omnikings in DB Super have tournament of greatest fighters in the different universes and realties. Below the Omnikings are destroyer gods like Beerus who looks like the Egyptian Jackal god Anubis. Beerus’ job and his brother Champa is to destroy planets and punish sentients. Below them are the Kai “King of the Worlds” deities, who watch, control quadrants of the universe, and help mortals, then there is the Shenron dragon gods who grant wishes (Super Shenron [Super], Red Shenron [DB GT], and Shenron [DB to DB Super]) such as saving planets or bring back the dead (necromancy). Finally there is the Saiyan Gods or Super Saiyan Blue who uses god Ki. This pantheon is pagan, and most of hierarchy is based on the powers to reverse catastrophes and unleash destruction. Eternal realties are not a focal point since all the bad that is done can be wished away, Wiz can time travel back, or the Omnikings can undo it all, which actually removes tension since any calamity or evil can be reversed through several means.
Suffice to say Dragon Ball and its many iterations is not healthy for children, teens, or adults. Its emphasis on anger, rage, and wrath to activate and channel Ki which is a pagan energy force we Christians should not tap into is dangerous. That combined with false gods and mocking Christianity with many variants of the devil and his namesake confirm the creators intent is wicked. The devil is our chief enemy and has one third of the fallen angels in his army (Revelation 12:7-10). The devil seeks to devour, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings,” (1 Peter 5:8-9) and He is nothing compared to our All Powerful Lord Jesus, “The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil,” (1 John 3:8), but the devil is a threat and seeks to do the saints harm if he can. The fact the Dragon Ball creators make fun of Christians over the devil shows mockery is their motive.
The Dragon Ball shows and movies have a combination of bad elements and spiritism. For these reasons I do not recommend them. I also noticed the anger is catching, like Pokemon and Power Rangers, children become full of rage after watching Dragon Ball. Which is not the Christian way. Amen.
