100,000 Syrian Christians are now at risk as America pulls its troops out of Syria and Turkish Troops invade. Since 323 A.D. the Church has had unprecedented favor, fiscal gains and freedom. Christianity became the world’s religion as Rome under Constantine adopted it as the official religion. Ironic that the Church which was to be reviled for Christ, “ Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner. of evil against you falsely, for my sake ” (Matthew 5:11), was now renowned. The laurel crown has since faded, and setting in is a crown of thorns. So often we hear about the negative. That churches are under siege and scandal has erupted. But amidst this darkness there is always Light. In the Middle East, a man has had dreams of our Lord Jesus Christ appearing to him and speaking to Him for 30 Days. This has major significance to the Muslim world because the Quran means “to recite” and the Koran is the written down recitations of Muhammad’s revelations. The fact a Middle Eastern man has received recitations from our True Lord and God Jesus Christ will make it more acceptable to Muslims who have been hesitant to approach the Gospels  in our Bible. There are matters upon which the Bible is silent, one of those is suicide. Contrary to Medieval Roman Catholic dogma, Scripture does not mention if a person who commits suicide goes to hell. Martin Luther believed that any individual who commits suicide was “overcome by the devil.” Luther is one of the first Protestants to indicate suicide is spiritual, that demonic powers can entice humans to self slaughter.  There is support for Luther’s claim in the Old and New Testaments. The most notable suicides are King Saul and the Apostle Judas Iscariot. There has been quite a shaking in the Church visible as several notable individuals (Joshua Harris, and Marty Sampson of Hillsong United) have publicly apostatized and abandoned the faith.  In the wake of this upheaval, many may ask what does this all mean? The use of sacred images in churches dates back to the 3rd Century. The first images were crosses, fishes (ichythuses), a lamb, and Jesus’s face on a shroud. Since the implementation of images, there has been controversy. Throughout a millennia, two camps emerged, the iconphiles (icondules, iconlaters), those in favor of using images of paintings and statues of Christ and the saints in churches, and the second-camp is the inconclasts, those against use of all images to the point of destroying the images in churches.  The debate over Christian images has raged for centuries, leading to major outbreaks of iconoclasm in Byzantium under Emperor Leo III, in Germany during The Reformation under Karlstadt, in England via The Puritans, and on many other occasions.
