Jesus dying on the cross to break the power of Satan and sorcery (above), and Sauron vs Galadriel practicing sorcery (LOTR BFME II) |
Sorcery has found a home in the houses of most servants of Christ through The Chronicles of Narnia and Tolkien's The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings. Many Christians reject Harry Potter, but find C.S. Lewis and Tolkien's words to be acceptable because of the Christian allegories. Well in Narnia, Aslan says, "There is deep magic that is more powerful," and Jadis The White Witch does a pagan (celtic, druid, or norse) sacrifice of Aslan on a Stone Table that looks like Stonehenge which was place of sorcery. In Tolkien's tales, there are wizards like Gandalf, Radagast, Saruman and the Two blues. Gandalf is Oiden, but also a wizard who employs white magic. Galadriel is a sorceress or witch, depending on your point of view, who uses white magic like the Wiccans and New Ageists. The Elves specifically use enchantments, Arwen calls upon water horses (water spirits) in The Fellowship of the Ring film. The entire Tolkien world is embroiled in magic, in fact the name Middle Earth is a place in the supernatural: a dimension (dwelling, tunnel, place) of the spirit that witches and warlocks of both the white and black magick fight each other (see my post for the link about this from former witch turned devote Christian titled: The Truth About The Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Star Wars).
I mentioned in my review of The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies of a scene between Sauron (The Necromancer) and Black Magic user fighting Galadriel the White Council Member (White Witch) who leaves her body in a spirit to face Sauron's spirit. The Scene shows the white and black magic fighting, which really happens in the Wiccan and New Age magic religions. If that was not enough, Star Wars is yet another story about this white and black magic. In Star Wars the Force (Magic) is split into a Light and Dark Sides. The Jedi uses the Light or White power to fight the Sith who use the Dark and Black power. In essence this conflict is the same as seen in Tolkien's story, because it is based on a real elemental battle between witches and warlocks who each seek to increase or decrease the light
(white) and dark (black) magic.

Here is how to understand the white and black magic users. Those who practice the white magick, which often uses a Pentangle, are deceived by Satan, "who disguises himself as an angel of light." (1 Corinthians 11:14). The white magick users think they are serving a good power and prince, but in truth they are deceived into the fighting the other group who also serves Satan. The Black Magick Users who use the Pentagram and other symbols, serve Satan directly; their goal is just like what Jesus describes Satan's goal is, they seek to "steal, kill, and destroy." (John 10:10). The black magick users actually know Satan's true colors and yet love him. The white magic users such as witches and paladins are deceived into thinking they are fighting Satan. Let me put it this way, to use a Star Was reference; Satan is Palpatine. Like Palpatine, Satan has created a Clone War where he is in charge of both the droids and clones. To the droids (black magic users), Satan puts on his black robes as Darth Sidious and to the Republic Armies of Clones (who wear white ironically) he wears the Senatorial and even Chancellor robes of Palpatine.
There are man more movies and books about magic that people are deeply involved in. One is called the "Wardstone Chronicles", also known as the "Spook's Apprentice" books which has recently been adapted into a film called "The Seventh Son." The story is about Spooks (knights) who fight dark powers like witches, boggarts, demons, and etc. The problem is that the Spooks who are depicted as good use alchemy, a metal magic and sciences of the like to battle the witchcraft and sorcery of the witches. This is again white versus black magic. The Spooks are using spells for amulets, wards, stones, and swords to battle the witches, while the witches uses blood craft, possession of people, enchantment, and etc.
This is only one among many stories out there about magic. This resurgence of interest in sorcery comes from sinister spirits and a society that abandoned God and now after being secular humanist for so long, is intrigued by the spiritual and supernatural. But their interest is dangerious. The Lord God makes very clear to not be involved in any of things I have mentioned in the countless stories. Here is what the Lord said,
"When thou art come to the land which the Lord God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn the abominations of the nations (people, pagans) in which you shall live: There shall not be found among you anyone one who maketh their son or daughter pass threw the fire, or that uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or consulter (conjurer) of familiar spirits (demons), or a wizard, or necromancer (one who summons the dead spirits or talks to the dead)." (Deuteronomy 18:9-12). Some versions of this include Alchemy, which is a witchcraft using metals and spells.
It is clear the Lord forbids these practices and that does not change because of the New Covenant of Christ! The Scriptures say, "The Lord Jesus Christ is the Same yesterday, today, and forever." (Hebrews 13:8). Our God does not want us in bondage to these sorceries and magic. For the soothsayers and witches get people under their control and spending their money and time to consult with familiar and demonic spirits posing as parents and other relatives. As Christians we must stay away from these kinds of mysticism and magic. For they lead the "present darkness," Paul talks about. In fact, St. Paul confronts a magician named Simon and said to Him, "You shall be blind because you thought you could buy the power of the Holy Spirit! Simon then went blind." (Acts 8:9-25).
But what of the Gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12? How are they different than the powers wizards and witches use? The difference is the what source it comes from and what/who initiates it. In the case of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit: discerning of spirits (lets you discern witches and magic being used against the church, prophecy (confronts and draws people closer ot Christ), healing (God heals through the person with the gift), Tongues (a language for prayer that even Satan cannot understand, but God does), Word of Knowledge, Interpretation of Tongues, and the other gifts are all from the Holy Spirit that comes from both The Father and Jesus, "I will send the Holy Spirit, who comes from the Father and I send." (John 14:16, 26, John 15:26).
The Gifts of the Spirit have the duo purpose, to drawn us closer to Christ and to draw (evangelize) unbelievers who witness the gifts like healing. The powers of the Holy Spirit are from God, not Satan and other demonic spirits. Jesus Christ himself did them: he healed the blind, healed the sick, healed lepers, healed the lame, healed the demon possessed, raised the dead, and Himself was raised from the dead (Mark 8:22-25, Mark 2:1-12, Luke 17:11-19, Mark 1:34, Mark 5:21-43, John 11, Mark 16, and Luke 24). And yet the Pharisees said to Him, "you cast out devils with the help of the devil! To which Jesus said, "How can kingdom divided against itself stand? What gain does Satan have to caste himself out? If the devil fought himself, his kingdom would come to ruin. A divided kingdom cannot stand" (Matthew 12:25-27, Luke 11:18 and Mark 3:23-26). Ps. believing what Pharisees said is "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit," (Mark 3:29) which is the exact verse that follows Jesus confronting them about the evil they said about him in Mark 3:23-26. Blasphemy against the Holy spirit, which is the only sin that cannot be forgiven happens when the Holy Spirit does heal someone or deliver someone from a demon and a person calls it the work of the devil or demons.
Jesus did miraculous works that we can do through Him and the Holy Spirit and that is not magic, because it comes form God who can do anything. Magic, either white or black comes from conjuring and using demons, devils, fallen angels, and other dark powers. The goal of magic users to ensnare and put people in bondage, to cause harm, to cause fear, to control, and to increase their power. Magic users fight and vie for position and power. But Jesus Christ came to liberate and "set the captives free." (Luke 4:18). Our Lord and God is concerned with having you clean and set free from any bondage. In Christ we seek not power and position, but peace and perfect love! (2 Thessalonians 3:46 and 1 John 4:18). For Jesus said, "the greatest in the kingdom shall be servant (help, serve, support) of all."(Matthew 20:26, Matthew 23:11, and Matthew 18). This is not the mentality of magic users, their slogan "survival of fittest and only the strongest survive." (Charles Darwin and The Devil).
We must be careful of "false teachers, false preachers, and false christs who use counterfeit sings and wonders" (Matthew 7:15-23). But if you walking the Spirit of Christ and The Holy Spirit you shall not be deceived. The Fact we have Deuteronomy 8 and the entire Old and New Testaments helps us test what is of God and what is of the devil. Our goal is not to gain power, but to find purpose and perfect wholeness in Jesus Christ! We do not do charms, spells, enchantments, sorcery, but we do set people free from theses crafts with the Blood of Jesus and the Power of the Holy Spirit.
The reason magic is making a comeback is that the time of Christ's Return is soon at hand. Satan and legions of sinister spirits want to get people involved n sorcery so that they will be bound by him and not free in the Son of God who is Jesus Christ. Satan's goal is to get people caught up in mysticism, magic, and morbid practices so they will not be close to their Maker and Messiah. I wrote this post as warning, that if you get involved in magic, no matter what its form; there is even an alleged Christian Magic, but it is a lie posing as Christianity like Scientology and Mormonism. Do not get deceived and participate in these demonic powers.
Stay away, do not practice, do not be involved in or have anything to do with the following: astrology, alchemy, divination, necromancy, sooth saying, blood craft, witchcraft, lovecraft, wizardy, harlotry, paladins, prostitutes, pornography, warlocks, witches, wizards, Wiccan, White Magick, Black Magick, New Age, curses, spells, hexs, wards, charms, amulets, enchantments, demons, devils, fallen angels, thrones, princes, familiar spirits, spirit (demon passing) possession, pentagram, pentangle, sirens (water spirits), vampires, werewolves, Egyptian witchcraft, Awege boards, Christian Science, Christian Mysticism, Mariology/Marian ology, Prayer to Saints, Church (Catholic) Indulgences, Penance, Trial by Fire: walking through fire, Catholic & Orthodox amulets, Jewish Kabala, Free Masonry, Occult, Brotherhood, Illuminati, Artimis Worship, Baal worship, Molech worship, Osiris veneration, Rah veneration, Mammon (money) worship, Norse religion & mysticism (Oiden, Thoru, and Loki worship), Greek mythology, Roman gods, Egyptian gods, Norse gods, Druid worship, Celtic religion and magic, Hungarian deities like Zelda, and anything forbidden in The Bible and by The Holy Spirit.
The reason many of the practices I have listed above are not defined in thE Bible is because many of them are offshoots of older magic and witchcraft. In the time of Jesus and even before during the time of Moses, vampires and Catholic Mary magic did not exist. The demons and devilish spirits involved in such practices have tried to taint the church by coming in during the conversion of the pagans in the Middle Ages. This particularly happened because of the Saxons who would not convert to Christianity unless they could keep their pagan practices and with Constantine the Great who would not compel his pagan Romans to give up their rituals of demons when they became Christians. As a result, we have witchcraft, sorcery, amulets, and other mysticisms within the Church. We must be diligent to do away with these things and enlighten other brothers and sisters about the dangers of these devil inspired practices.
Some believers are convinced none of this stuff can hurt you. I say this is naiveté. It cannot harm you if you resist it and turn to Jesus, but it can hurt or cause you agitation and trouble in the spirit realm. I am familiar with this because a relative married a member of the occult and brotherhood. It caused great grief for much of the family. So I can speak on this subject with authority. We should not be frighten, for Jesus said, "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but power, love, and a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7). A expert on spiritual warfare I respect said, "Be aware, not preoccupied. Be ready to battle the powers of darkness, but do not look for a demon under every bush." (Chip Ingram, Spiritual Warfare). This is great way to stay in balance. Too many Christians either fall into the camp of Spiritual Warfare Obsession where they are always talking about demons and doing deliverance or they fall into the camp of Immunity; where they believe no demon can afflict or cause them trouble and even fall into thinking Satan is just a symbol for evil. Both extremes are wrong. We are in spiritual war, but our hearts, souls, spirits, and minds should be focused on Jesus Christ. He has already won the war! However, we are involved in, "guerilla warfare" for the souls of the lost and to keep our place in Christ's salvation.
I suggest that all Christians stay away from the sorceries and list I mentioned. I believe we should not only flee from actual sorcery and witchcraft, but abstain from viewing it in movies or reading about it in books. If you read or watch movies that have magic as focus, it will give those demons involved in that craft and magic strength in you life and you will become open to the dark arts! So stay in Christ and stay away from anything that is in Deuteronomy 8:9-11.
