The Holocaust was a horrible manifestation of hatred. In two days is the International Memorial Day that remembers those who died in the genocide of the Holocaust. What is a shame about commemorating this somber remembered day, is that often is focuses on just Jews who suffered in the interment camps. In reality, Christians suffered as well. In fact, a friend of mine, Rosemary Schindler (the Niece of Oscar Schindler) shared, "Over 12 Million Christians were killed in the Holocaust, double that of the Jews at 6-7 Million."
Now I am not trying to start a contest between Jews and Christians about who suffered more. Rather my heart is that we join together in remembering this horrific hour of both our histories. Christians should not feel like the Holocaust is merely a monstrous act of human cruelty towards Jews, it was done towards Christians! Therefore our prayer should be the same as the Jews, "Never Again." As persecution rises in the world against both Jews and Christians, the time has come for us to remember what happened.
This January 27th, I recommend that Christian brothers and sisters offer up prayers to the Lord Jesus. As persecution is growing worldwide, the realities of the Holocaust have never been more tangible than now. Another way we can remember is watch "Schindler's List", directed by Stephen Spielberg and staring Liam Nesson. We should never forget that evil exists and will endeavor to whip out the sons of Israel. We should have compassion for the Jewish People and what they suffered, but not forget that our ancestors, devout Christians suffered in the same concentration camps. In fact, the Holocaust is the event in which the hands of the Jew and Christian were clutched together after centuries of division. Make not mistake, the Holocaust was monstrous, but it also was moment that bridged a the divide between the Christian and Jew; something that is prophesized by the prophets Hosea and Zachariah.
