  When I read the words of our Lord, “Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold,” (Matthew 24:12) that it was speaking of love of God and altruistic love towards other people. I am now convinced that the rise of Aromantic & Asexual types, people who possess a lack of romantic desire is actually a trend that is tied to the words of Jesus. I never considered that cynicism towards romantic love would be the fulfillment of our Lord’s prophecy about the end of days.  The trends against romance are rising, with forty-year-old virgins being the norm (it use to be such a joke there was a movie with Steve Carrel, now its normal), birth rates declining in US, China, Japan, and Russia, and fatigue over dating apps.   Due to the fall of man in Genesis, we tend to associate serpents or snakes with Satan who is said to appear as one (Genesis 3:4), though the Hebrew word there is Seraph, which is Seraphim plural and type of angel (Isaiah 6:1-7), regardless people tend to say the serpent is Satan’s symbol and creature, even the Final book of the Bible says, “That serpent of Old, Satan.” (Revelation 12:9, Revelation 20:2). However, would it interest you to know that the serpent is associated more with The LORD our God, with Jesus Christ specifically? So let’s take a look.   The devil is cunning, Scripture tells us so, “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil,” (Ephensians 6:11), one of those pieces of spiritual armor is the Helmet of Salvation.   Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us a warning that in the last times, “lawlessness will increase, and the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12). I originally interpreted this to mean that because sin (lawlessness) increases love will naturally decrease because people will become as the Apostle said, “For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful, abusive, and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good.” (2 Timothy 3:2-3) . However, I have encountered in recently months another layer to these words of our Lord, and it is most disturbing.   In a world full of mega churches and major upheaval it can feel like that the church his under siege in all directions. There can be a temptation to turn our struggles into a great cosmic conflict, and read apocalyptic omens in our offering plates. Sometimes I think about how maybe we need to get back to the quietness, to the small churches in small towns where our Faith can shine brightly, and even crosses rise up aside the rode to proclaim our Savior. The Mega Church model as turned church into a numbers game, when it is about people, the ecclesia, the set apart ones of Christ who should gather not to meet some quota but to commune with the LORD and each other.  Grand Cathedrals and Mega Churches have their charms. The former are architectural wonders that draw our minds back to the Age when churches were the center of every village, town, and city.   Once upon a time a man could woo a woman through mutual attraction and protective instincts. While yes knights did joust to impress the ladies at court, the point is that was their profession already. Nowadays, this has all changed with PinInterest demanding “40 Guidelines to Make A Woman Happy,” and enough hoops to jump through to make any man want to thank God that marriage does not exist in heaven (Matthew 22:30).  I call this complex, The Mocking Complex, in that Mockingbird males have to learn 26 songs to potentially woo a female who is fickle and might go for another male’s song.   Evidenly my latest posts were not to the liking of people. So I have decided to take a much needed break from posting. It’s long overdue. Many pastors and people trying to keep ye saints strong are suffering burn out.. maybe it’s time to think about those of us who put so much effort in and show some kidness?   The Church has a long history since at least 4th Century of repressing sexuality. The obsession with Virginity and the insistence on Vows of Chastity to be monastics helped foster thousands of years of sexual control over Europe and Middle East. Inventions like chastity belts that lock a woman’s vagina up, and even male ones to beat their testicles in a sadistic way to keep them from masturbating ought to go down in history as torture devices.
