Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 5 in D major/D minor, Op. 107 "Reformation" (with Score)
Mendelssohn composed “The Reformation in D Major/Minor,” which is the very sound of the Reformation. It has chipper and happy sound, conveying that the chains of Roman Catholicism and all its indulgences, regulations, man made traditions, extortions, and lies have been cut asunder and instead we are free in the field of the Lord! No longer oppressed by the traditions of mere men who pose as priests in the Roman Church, “And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” And he said to them, “Thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do,” (Mark 7:13), “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!” (Mark 7:6-9), “In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men,” (Matthew 15:9), and “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” (Colossians 2:8)
The latter part of the compositionpf Mendelsson’s The Reformaton in D is Luther’s A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, which is very fitting since it was Luther not Ralph Waldo, Luther not Jan Hus, Luther not even Zwingli and John Calvin who was the One that God chose to bring forth The Reformation, his 95 Thesis, Table Talk, On The Christian Nobility, and other writings along with the first New Testament in German was the nails in Catholicism dominance coffin. The Romanite Church tried to make a resurgence with The Counter Reformation, however it was unable to take back the bulwark of Our Mighty Fortress who is God! Amen.
