Resetting Priorities

The world around us is in upheaval, as people take sides. Everything has to be one about which cause, political affiliation, and sect you are part of. Radicalism is forming in all sides, there is no room for a moderating voice. You have the pikes turned on you as people demand, “pick a side!” Well I am on only one side, Jesus’ side, and I find it interesting how Christ is now being overshadowed by the latest outrage of the week.

We focus on the wrong things. We convince that we must tackle the latest social issues and debate whatever new fancy violates our club and its by laws. We are not suppose to be fixed on this world (John 15:19), but on Jesus, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2). Not colleges, Christ. Not on causes with charismatic voices, Christ! We are letting ourselves be seduced  by what is trendy,  rather than keeping our eyes on Jesus.

The apostle Paul with great wisdom said to count everything lost but knowing Jesus, “More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them mere rubbish, so that I may gain Christ,” (Philippians 3:8). Everything else is mere rubbish   compared to knowing Christ! But in this day and age people are elevating the rubbish, becoming reactors to every wind of teachings, “Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.” (Ephesians 4:14). We have to stop blowing and get our eyes back on Jesus!

We must be careful and get our priorities straight. To not get caught in machinations and political games of this world. For we are called ro be not of this world, “Do not be conformed to the pattern this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect,” (Romans 12:2), “If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you,” (John 15:19), “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world,” (John 17:16), “We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one,” (1 John 5:18), and “And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever..” (1 John 2:17). Why do we become so swayed by worldly affairs and moments if the world is under the power of the evil one? Why do churches teach we must leap into political scene and take up causes that are worldly? The answer is people  have their priorities mixed up and rather than fixing on Jesus, they are concerned with this world, “but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.” (Mark 4:19).

How long are we going to be double minded? Claiming to be all in for Christ on Sundays, while Monday through Saturday we are all in for this world? How long can this cognitive dissonance last before a crisis? At some point you have to decide, are you a disciple of Jesus ans part of His Kingdom Which Is Not of This World (John 18:36) or are you part pf the kingdom of this world that belongs to Satan?  (1 John 5:18). You cannot be lukewarm, “'I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-16). You have to make your priorities clear, are you for The Kingdom of God or this world? Is it Jesus or Satan? Make up your mind!  Amen.

Israel’s Conquest of Canaan: The Nephilim and Giants

Christianity Today asserts that the conquest of Canaan can be a “stumbling block” for believers. This probably is because of a foolish idea of comparing it to a modern conquest happening in our world. The truth is that God had Israel conquer Canaan because it was ruled by evil giants, “We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.” (Numbers 13:33). These are Anakim or Nephilim, the children of angels and human women, “When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God (angels) saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. The...

Dispensationalism

John Nelson Darby (1800-1882) was a man who did two things, he took 70th week of the Book of Daniel and stretched out to the End Times, and he was the father of  Dispensationalism , a belief system that God dispenses different peoples with separate blessings and covenants. According to Darb'ys doctrine of Dispensationalism, God dispenses different covenants. There are total of seven dispensations that divide the history of man: I. Dispensation of Innocence (prior to the Fall, "Do not east of the Fruit of Good and Eve, Eden), II. Dispensation of Conscience ( You must assuage guilt and sin with blood sacrifices.) III. Dispensation of Human Government (Multiply and Subdue the world, example the Tower of Babel Gen 11:1-9, and Genesis 1:28). IV. Dispensation of the Promise (Dwell in Canaan, Jerusalem) V. Dispensation of the Law ("Obey the Law of Moses and the Prophets"). VI. Dispensation of Grace (The Church, Jesus Christ has come...

Jesus’ Name in Aramaic

There has been a trend to render Jesus’ name Hebrew, יֵשׁוּעַ , Yeshua. The problem is neither Christ nor his apostles, nor the Jews in 30-33 A.D. spoke Hebrew, they spoke Aramaic. A ramaic is the oldest language on earth and was the language Jesus spoke. In fact, the oldest Old Testament is the Septuagint a Greco translation around 132 B.C.E. (165 Years Before Christ)that was translated from Aramaic. The Masoretic Text, The Hebrew Old Testament most Bibles use, dates from 7th to 10th Century A.D. (Medieval Times).  This translation does not cross reference with the words of Christ in the New Testament which are Aramaic and Koine Greek.  If the Aramaic was what Jesus spoke, then by what name would have been called? Jesus’ name in Aramaic is Isho or Eesho, spelled ܝܫܘܥ . That is the name of our Lord in Aramaic! He would have heard his name in this dialect, “Hail Isho or Eesho!” as well as the Greek, Ἰ ησο ῦ ς , Iesous.  Aramaic is disappearing, only a few peop...
