“1 Jesus is risen! Let us sing!
Praise to the everliving King!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise him in song, ye Seraphim!
Praise him with joy, ye Cherubim!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
2 On this most holy day of days,
Let us together sing his praise!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Raise joyful voices to the sky!
Sing out, ye heavens, in reply:
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
3 To God the Father let us sing,
To God the Son, our risen King!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
And equally let us adore
The Holy Spirit evermore!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!”

These hymns sung by a choir never cease to convey the glory of our Lord and Savior. While the modern worship does a better job on the intimacy we share with The Risen Christ, hymns often capture the dignity, majesty, and might of the Lord. Each can serve a purpose. This Easter I struggle to find something new to say, some brilliant homily to bestow, and I have nothing. So I let this hymn ring loud, Easter is not about being cleaver and coming up with a superbowl sermon, that has already been written in The Scriptures. It is about pointing to Christ, letting the gospels speak instead of our own voices; to let God’s voice ring loud. I think the best thing one can do on Resurrection Sunday is get out of the way, to adopt for a day John The Baptist’s model, “He must increase, I must decrease.” (John 3:30-35).
Listen to the words in this hymn or read them if you have no access to the video. Let the words wash over you and meditate on them. For today is about Jesus, He is Risen! I bow my key strokes to the One who dealt a death stroke to death itself. Amen.
