Jacob being tricked to marry Leah, the elder daughter of Laban instead of his desired wife Rachel is seen as Jacob reaping what He sows, that he was involved in scheme to deceive his Father Isaac into thinking he was Esau to receive the blessing. However, God actually favored Leah, she bears Jacob six sons! Poor Leah just wanted to be loved by Jacob, “Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, “It is because the LORD has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now,” (Genesis 29:32), and God seeing her mistreatment, “When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren,” (Genesis 29:31) and favors her with the majority of the Twelve Tribes (Genesis 35:23) , but The Lord also favors her by the fact that one of her sons was Judah, “The sons of Leah: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun,” (Genesis 35:23), and The Lord Jesus is from Judah, “For it is clear that our Lord [Jesus] descended from Judah..” (Hebrews 7:14) and is called the Lion of Judah, “And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:5, Romans 1:1-4 says Jesus is the Son of David), and in genealogies of Jesus you see Judah (Luke 3:23-38, Matthew 1:1-17).
Leah is favored because she is faithful to The Lord, why Rachael who remained barren save for two sons Joseph and Benjamin, was an idolater, “When Laban had gone to shear his sheep, Rachel stole her father’s household gods.” (Genesis 31:19). Rachael had a divided heart to The Lord and the gods of her Father Laban, and she dies in child birth which could be due to Jacob’s curse, “Jacob answered and said to Laban, “Because I was afraid, for I thought that you would take your daughters from me by force. Anyone with whom you find your gods shall not live.” (Genesis 31:31-32), Rachael who hides those gods in her saddle bag and lies to Laban (Genesis 31:34-35), does die in childbirth (Genesis 35:16-18). Leah the faithful one of the Lord is the one who gets to raise Rachel’s children with the other wives of Jacob. We see that Leah was God’s choice in that he gave her the most sons, that she gets to raise Rachael’s sons, and it is form her son Judah that Jesus comes from!!! God vindicated Leah who isn’t loved by becoming flesh from her very own offspring and saving mankind at the cross! Let the story of Leah and Rachael be a warning, Leah wasn’t as besutiful byt revered the Lord and the Lord became a Man from her line! Rachael who was beautiful and served other gods was mostly barren, and died in child birth so that she did bot get to enjoy her sons. You cannot serve the table of lord and the table of demons (false gods), “You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too,” (1 Corinthians 10:21), “You shall have no other gods before or besides Me.
You shall not make yourself any graven image [to worship it] or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; You shall not bow down yourself to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God,” (Exodus 20:3-5), “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him,” (Matthew 4:10), and Rachael is proof of that! Be like Leah! She is the heroine, she was rewarded by God with the greatest honor, The Lord became flesh as the person of Jesus Christ and saved us from our sins! Leah gets to be in line of King of Kings, not just kings! What an honor! Amen.
