Thoughts On Psychology

Nowadays everyone is labeled. If you struggle with anxiety, you have anxiety disorder, mood swings you are Bipolar or Borderline Personality Disorder, if you struggle with excessive order and neatness its OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and so on. What if none of these are true? What if mood swings people have demons or having no self control, a fruit of the Spirit? (Galatians 5:22-23). What if anxiety could be solved by obeying Peter’s words, “Cast all your anxiety on Jesus because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7). What if depression isn’t mental deficiency, but normal blues, I mean The Psalms and Ecclesiastes in the Bible have deep depression in them. What if its all just different personality types prone to hyperactivity and sociableness or melancholy and depression?  What if we are labeling people and telling them they are defective when they are “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:14).

I recently watched a film called “Girl, Interrupted” with Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, both of who give Oscar worthy performances. The story follows Susanna (Ryder) who due to a overdose of Aspirin ends up at Claymore, a hospital home hybrid where she and group of other women battle their supposed disorders. Angelina Jolie plays Lisa, who is supposably a sociopath, prone to violence and has spell like powers of persuasion, but in end she is just a broken woman who is overly honest, and the world outside which is the 1960’s is far crazier than Claymore. In one scene all the girls get their files and read their diagnosis, and you get the sense that they are really just victimized, traumatized, abused, and broken girls who are being labeled in their pain, when what they need is Jesus and to not be treated as defunct or deficient. There is a scene when Vanessa Redgrave as Dr. Wick quotes stoic philosopher to Susanna, and it sounds exactly like Susanna’s “dark undertow” and her struggle, insinuating that through the ages people have felt as she does. That’s the point, people in history were not labeled as disordered, but expressed their feelings in philosophical thought, writings, theology discussion, and etc. Now instead of a pen, they get a prescription and diagnosis of having a disorder rather than a demon or disposition that will with time and healthy coping methods will pass. In the end Susanna’s character makes the choice to live, to be in the world, even if it seems crazy. She is cured by gratefulness for life, which sounds Biblical, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you,” (1 Thessalonians 5:18), “Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” (Ephesians 5:20), and “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6). Susanna is able to break through her depression after a wake up call & good therapy; she starts to see life is precious and love is important, again Christian beliefs. I do want to say Claymore and its doctors of psychology in the film are unique, they want people to face their demons and get well, to not remain in bondage to the mental disorder but be cured, while many in psychology so as Lisa says, “Yeah, well that's what they-rape-me's all about. That's why f*ckin' Freud's picture's on every shrink's wall. He created a f**kin' industry. You lie down, you confess your secrets and you're saved. Ca-ching! The more you confess, the more they think about settin' you free.” Lisa heights many shrinks want you to stay sick so they con keep you in therapy sessions (at 100-300+ USD an hour) indefinitely and make money prescribing drugs.

Psychology or Psycho-logy can be very devilish. It labels people in their brokenness and gives people excuses to keep their demons and never get well, oh and add a drug prescription to boot. I imagine the man with a legion of demons Jesus delivers (Luke 8:26-39) would now just be labeled as Multiple Personality Disorder and never be freed from demonic oppression, or the Woman at The Well who had five husbands (John 4:5-30) would be categorized as sociopath like Lisa in Girl Interrupted. The point is psychology labels like Bipolar puts people in boxes, Christ in contrast sets captives free, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free,” (Luke 4:18) which means those labeled disordered, and he makes all us one rather than separating us into categories, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28) rather than segregated and labels of disorder. The Pharisees loved labeling people, they probably could be called forerunners of psychology. Karl Jung, Sigmund Freud, and all the supposed psychology pantheon of men teach man made tradition just like Pharisees did in a religious context, “And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?” And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)—then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”” (Mark 7:5-13). Worse Psychology would attempt to negate all the revelations of Bible with its Jerusalemania and hallucination disorders, which are lies! They want to caste doubt on the spiritual reality and truth that every word of Scripture is God Breathed (2,Timothy 3:16) and happened not as allegory, but literally happened as it says in Scripture! In fact the allegorists like in Roman Catholic Liberal Theologians look very similar to psychologists, trying to cloud the truth that  “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.,” (John 4:24), they want to make everything the mind, when the mind is connected to the spirit, “guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 4:7). Psychologists,  Cessationalist Baptists, and Allegory/Liberal Theologians of Catholicism are enemies of The Holy Spirit, they refuse to acknowledge that visions, words of knowledge, healing, signs and wonders, and spiritual experiences are normal and true, “” (1 Corinthians 14), “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” (Acts 2:1-4), “I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. And I know that this man was caught up into paradise—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows—and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter,” (2 Corinthians 12:1-4), “John, to the seven congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} which are in Asia: Grace be unto you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne and from Jesus, the Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins with his own blood and has made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Behold, he comes with the clouds, and every eye shall see him and those also who pierced him; and all kindreds of the earth shall wail over him. Even so, Amen. I was in the Spirit in the day of the Lord and heard behind me a great voice as of a trumpet,” (Revelation 1:4-7, 10), and “Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said. As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!  Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”” (John 20:19-23).

Much of Psycho-ology is Satanic. It ignores the spirit, worships the mind and feelings, when “the heart is deceitful above all else,” (Jeremiah 17:9). You cannot fix a person if you only tend to the mind, for we humans are spirit, body, and mind, and they all effect each other and are interconnected. Psychology in terms of the spirit is atheist or agnostic, and so it cannot tend to the spirit, it compartmentalizes, leaving your body to a medical doctor and your spirit to a pastor, but really mind, body, and spirit should be treated as one. Psycho-ology simply judges one sphere that overlaps into the spirit and body spheres, like clover leaf or trinity triangle symbol. We are made in God’s Image who is Triune, One God in Three Persons, we are One Person with Three Parts: mind, body, and spirit. To only treat one part is folly, because we are all three at once. If you are malnourished (eat poorly, the body), it effects your mental state, and your spirit struggled because you can hardly feed your spiritual self when you are distracted with illness of the body and mental fog. If your spirit is sick from demonic, occult, and other influences your body will reflect it on the outside, and your mind will be full of thoughts like self harm, hate, and etc. Your mind is where a thought can enter and acting on it can effect your body and spirit like having sex which can effect your flesh with STDs,  and create spiritual ties and demonic oppression from the connecting of souls in intercourse.  Treating just the mind in that case would be insane, you’d need medicine for STDs, and spiritual cleansing to break soul ties and demonic influences.

Psychology tends to make people stay sick. You get to be in therapy indefinitely, pop pills till the grave, and carry whatever disorder label for life. I think of Jesus and man at pool of Silome, he asked “do you want to get well?” (John 5:6). Indeed, psychology says you can’t. I think lots of people live in their disorder and in despair with their diagnosis when they could be healed or experience freedom via The Holy Spirit. Instead, they listen to atheists with prescription pads, and a labeling system that ignores you are in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) and “wonderfully made.” (Psalm ). I believe counseling is beneficial, to speak to people in confidence your feelings & thoughts, and seek counsel, but psychology is for the most part a devil that seeks to keep you from being healed and keep you taking drugs and your special label for life. What if people are just broken from abuse and loss and need The Comforter [Holy Spirit]? What if people are immature and need self control? What if people need the hole of God in them filled first before tending to the mind? What if the reason the Bible is the number one selling book is its right that we are spirit, body, and mind, and that psychology is just mind, compartmentalizing us as a creation and thus missing the mark. I have no doubt King David and Solomon would labeled as Depressive, Walt Disney would be given a Peter Pan Complex, Joan of Arc would be prescribed puberty blockers and told to be transgender, and so on. When none of that is true! David experienced sorrow and dark nights of the soul, Disney had child like heart which Jesus admonishes, “And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven,” (Matthew 18:3), and Joan of Arc dressed as man to fit in with the French Troops and nowadays women wear men’s suits to fit in at work. Psychology makes unique traits, temperaments, and personalities and calls them disorders. Now sure if a behavior is harmful to the person or society they need to be helped, but psychologists are quick to label everyone, calling someone ADD and ADHD, or Autistic, and etc people who may not really be any of these or are experiencing a phase. I mean why is one person given hyperactive disorder diagnosis and another is just considered super social and energetic? I think psychology has done more harm than good, it took the focus off Christ (Hebrews 12:2) and placed it on man made traditions of men (Mark 7) who want to explain everything as mental and ignore spiritual things, specifically God.

I believe people cannot enter rest because psychology created a barrier of unbelief, “For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief..Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. For we who have believed enter that rest... ” (Hebrews 3:19-Hebrews 4:3). It is faith in Jesus that people need, Victory, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57) but instead people take Valium, instead of deliverance from demons they get a disorder label, instead learning self control and maturity, people have cop out of “I have a disorder, I can’t help it.” Psychology is an excuse to stay unwell, and Jesus asks, “do you want to be well?” (John 5:6). You have to decide, be victim or become victor in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Israel’s Conquest of Canaan: The Nephilim and Giants

Christianity Today asserts that the conquest of Canaan can be a “stumbling block” for believers. This probably is because of a foolish idea of comparing it to a modern conquest happening in our world. The truth is that God had Israel conquer Canaan because it was ruled by evil giants, “We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.” (Numbers 13:33). These are Anakim or Nephilim, the children of angels and human women, “When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God (angels) saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. The...

Dispensationalism

John Nelson Darby (1800-1882) was a man who did two things, he took 70th week of the Book of Daniel and stretched out to the End Times, and he was the father of  Dispensationalism , a belief system that God dispenses different peoples with separate blessings and covenants. According to Darb'ys doctrine of Dispensationalism, God dispenses different covenants. There are total of seven dispensations that divide the history of man: I. Dispensation of Innocence (prior to the Fall, "Do not east of the Fruit of Good and Eve, Eden), II. Dispensation of Conscience ( You must assuage guilt and sin with blood sacrifices.) III. Dispensation of Human Government (Multiply and Subdue the world, example the Tower of Babel Gen 11:1-9, and Genesis 1:28). IV. Dispensation of the Promise (Dwell in Canaan, Jerusalem) V. Dispensation of the Law ("Obey the Law of Moses and the Prophets"). VI. Dispensation of Grace (The Church, Jesus Christ has come...

Jesus’ Name in Aramaic

There has been a trend to render Jesus’ name Hebrew, יֵשׁוּעַ , Yeshua. The problem is neither Christ nor his apostles, nor the Jews in 30-33 A.D. spoke Hebrew, they spoke Aramaic. A ramaic is the oldest language on earth and was the language Jesus spoke. In fact, the oldest Old Testament is the Septuagint a Greco translation around 132 B.C.E. (165 Years Before Christ)that was translated from Aramaic. The Masoretic Text, The Hebrew Old Testament most Bibles use, dates from 7th to 10th Century A.D. (Medieval Times).  This translation does not cross reference with the words of Christ in the New Testament which are Aramaic and Koine Greek.  If the Aramaic was what Jesus spoke, then by what name would have been called? Jesus’ name in Aramaic is Isho or Eesho, spelled ܝܫܘܥ . That is the name of our Lord in Aramaic! He would have heard his name in this dialect, “Hail Isho or Eesho!” as well as the Greek, Ἰ ησο ῦ ς , Iesous.  Aramaic is disappearing, only a few peop...
