The Buddhist Influences in Star Wars

Ahsoka Tano, the former apprentice of Anakin Skywalker has her own series on Disney+. For some time I have noticed the Buddhist influence in Star Wars, particularly the detachment teachings of the Jedi that mirror Buddha’s teachings of The Middle Path. I just discovered the name Ahsoka is very close to Ashoka, who was an Emperor in 268-232 B.C. who adopted Buddhism and was instrumental in spreading it. The name Mara as in Mara Jade Skywalker in the EU is based on Mara, a representation of temptation of vice and hindrance to enlightenment in Buddhism. Yoda according to George Lucas is based on Buddhist monk he met in India before filming 1977 Star Wars: A New Hope, it is intriguing how close Yoda is to Yoga which is tied to Buddhism, even containing the lotus position of Buddha that the Jedi pose in when they meditate. Padme, Anakin’s wife actually means lotus which means wisdom in Buddhism. George Lucas is a professed Methodist-Buddhist. Qui-Gon Jinn’s name is close to Buddhist practice of qigong which is spiritual path to Buddahood (becoming like buddha, fully enlightened). Jedi robes are brown, which would make you inclined to believe they are like The Franciscan Monks of Catholicism, when in actuality it is brown robes of forest Buddhist monks and is often called a kasaya, named after saffron and brown dye.

In contrast the bad guys of Star Wars have Church and Christian names and influences, Anakin is born of a virgin which alludes to Jesus being born of a virgin, the title Darth or Daritha in Rakata means Lord, Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66 alludes to 66 Books of the Protestant Bible, Kylo Ren wield a cross shaped lightsaber, the Sith follow the rule of two which is like Jesus sending the apostles out two by two (Luke 9:1-2) or when two or more gather in His name or agree on anything (Matthew 18:19-20). Sith derives from an Old English prayer, “Christ’s Sith of suffering and sorrow,” Sith means journey in Old English, Remember Palpatine says “strike me down with all your hate, and your journey to the dark side will be complete!” (Return of the Jedi). In Legends the Sith seek a messiah called The Sith’ari who will reform their ways and raise them from the dead, Jesus raises the dead (Mark 5:21-43). The Sith theme music is choir like in a church. The Sith wear black robes and hoods like The Dominican Monks of Catholicism, in fact Inquisitors during the Spanish Inquisition were Dominican Monks and there is dark side order under Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader of Inquisitors called The Inquistorus. The Sith Code is based on Passion, “Peace is a lie, There is Only Passion,” “the Sith rely on their passion for their strength..,” (Anakin, Revenge of the Sith), and we call it Christ’s Passion or Passion of Christ to mean “the suffering and death of Jesus.” The part about “there is no peace,” in the Sith Code also seems close to Jesus’ words, “I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household,” (Matthew 10:34-36), do we not see this in Star Wars? Darth Vader is set against his son Luke, and Leia against her son Ben Solo/ Kylo Ren? So you can see George Lucas and Disney are trying to make the evil Sith like the words of Christ, a sword and setting families apart, when Jesus means by that those who believe in Him will be saved (John 3:16) and love Him and those who don’t in a family are condemned (John 3:18) and will serve Satan against the saved members of their family (Acts 26:18, Ephesians 2:2-3 NLT).  Jesus means the division will be over sheep and goats in a family, believers and nonbelievers. Star Wars is trying to make this truth ugly in The Sith representation. Sith eyes like Palaptine’s in his office, Darth Vader on Mustafar killing The Separatist leaders and Darth Maul are orange fiery eyes which look like Jesus’ eyes in Revelation, “His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.” (Revelation 19:12). Isn’t interesting how all the bad guys look Christian!

What is clear is the heroes in Star Wars, The Jedi, are Buddhist and the villians like Darth Vader and The Sith are Catholic & Christian. The aim of it is to glorify Buddhism and attack our Christian faith! The fact the dark siders who serve the dark side of the Force have all this Christian symbolism reminds me of Isaiah’ words, “What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.”(Isaiah 5:20). It is Buddhism and the Jedi beliefs based on it who is the real darkness, but they call it the light side, while the light of Christianity is depicted as the dark side in Star Wars.  It is obvious George Lucas’ time in India with the Buddhists in circa 1977 and him filming a very satanic Alltmont Free Festival in 1969 had a role in influencing his stories of A Galaxy, Far, Far, Away... Lucas has created a galaxy that makes Christians and the church the bad guys and the Buddhists the heroes. I have brought up before how the mystical Force the Jedi & Sith wield is Chi  which in Taoism and Animism, but Buddhism also contains The Force as well, for Chi is in both Taoist, Hindu, and Buddhist belief, and Chi is mystical energy in all things like Obi-Wan says of The Force in Star Wars: A New Hope, “The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.” That is the definition of Chi/qi (chee).

To quote Darth Malgus, “you were deceived.” (Star Wars: The Old Republic). Christian brothers and sisters were decieved to think Jedi were like Templar Knights or Jesus Monks vs Satanic Sith, when in reality its Buddhist Jedi versus Catholic-Christian Sith. It is thus incumbent upon us Christians to caste our lightsabers into the water like Kylo Ren does in the Rise of Skywalker, and do as he said in The Last Jedi, “its time to let old things die.., The Sith, The Jedi, The Rebels, let it all die.” Indeed let Star Wars die, caste it aside and its demonization of Christian truths & symbolism in favor of the lies of Buddhism. Amen.

Israel’s Conquest of Canaan: The Nephilim and Giants

Christianity Today asserts that the conquest of Canaan can be a “stumbling block” for believers. This probably is because of a foolish idea of comparing it to a modern conquest happening in our world. The truth is that God had Israel conquer Canaan because it was ruled by evil giants, “We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.” (Numbers 13:33). These are Anakim or Nephilim, the children of angels and human women, “When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God (angels) saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. The...

Dispensationalism

John Nelson Darby (1800-1882) was a man who did two things, he took 70th week of the Book of Daniel and stretched out to the End Times, and he was the father of  Dispensationalism , a belief system that God dispenses different peoples with separate blessings and covenants. According to Darb'ys doctrine of Dispensationalism, God dispenses different covenants. There are total of seven dispensations that divide the history of man: I. Dispensation of Innocence (prior to the Fall, "Do not east of the Fruit of Good and Eve, Eden), II. Dispensation of Conscience ( You must assuage guilt and sin with blood sacrifices.) III. Dispensation of Human Government (Multiply and Subdue the world, example the Tower of Babel Gen 11:1-9, and Genesis 1:28). IV. Dispensation of the Promise (Dwell in Canaan, Jerusalem) V. Dispensation of the Law ("Obey the Law of Moses and the Prophets"). VI. Dispensation of Grace (The Church, Jesus Christ has come...

Jesus’ Name in Aramaic

There has been a trend to render Jesus’ name Hebrew, יֵשׁוּעַ , Yeshua. The problem is neither Christ nor his apostles, nor the Jews in 30-33 A.D. spoke Hebrew, they spoke Aramaic. A ramaic is the oldest language on earth and was the language Jesus spoke. In fact, the oldest Old Testament is the Septuagint a Greco translation around 132 B.C.E. (165 Years Before Christ)that was translated from Aramaic. The Masoretic Text, The Hebrew Old Testament most Bibles use, dates from 7th to 10th Century A.D. (Medieval Times).  This translation does not cross reference with the words of Christ in the New Testament which are Aramaic and Koine Greek.  If the Aramaic was what Jesus spoke, then by what name would have been called? Jesus’ name in Aramaic is Isho or Eesho, spelled ܝܫܘܥ . That is the name of our Lord in Aramaic! He would have heard his name in this dialect, “Hail Isho or Eesho!” as well as the Greek, Ἰ ησο ῦ ς , Iesous.  Aramaic is disappearing, only a few peop...
