In times like these we need to commune with the Lord more than ever. As people are quarantined and kept in isolation, the only way to get through it is Christ. This is when we must move past petitions and into presence; spending time in the Trinity’s arms. Our God lives in us and we live in Him (1 John 4:15). We have access to our Abba, our Savior and Holy Spirit at any moment, “For through Him (Jesus) we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:18), and “In Him and through faith in Him we may enter God's presence with boldness and confidence.” (Ephesians 3:12). There is no impediment to keep us from our Lord, except ourselves.
In this time when parties, events, and entertainments are shut down, we have ample time to seek and dwell in God’s presence. There is no excuse now, no pressing appointment you can use to say, “I’ll pray later.” Christ has your undivided attention, and now is the time to seize the opportunity to grow in intimacy with Immanuel.
There are many religious leaders declaring this is the end of the world, this Coronavirus is the plague of Fourth Horseman (Revelation 6:7-9). It is easy to dismiss them, but what if they are right? What is our Lord Jesus Christ is poised to return soon? Are we ready to meet Him? I have said this climate is a opportunity for ministry, particularly in cyberspace, but ot is also a good time for self examination, to do a spiritual check up on our relationship with the Lord Jesus. Perhaps you’ve drifted into a cozy apathy or quick text relationship with God, making your requests known, but never being quiet long enough in prayer to listen. Perhaps you are extra busy ministering, trying to help in crisis, but all along you are ignoring God’s voice with hard work. We all can become content with acts of piety or our own network of things and neglect spending time in God’s presence.
The time had come to put our vigil on. To spend time in the Abba’s presence. Let us stop postponing our dinner date with God, and instead take glass of wine and bread and sit with Him in Communion. Lets stop going through the motions, checking off to do lists, and recharge in our Creator’s bosom. Our souls can get use to being busy, but in time the dryness we will feel our spirit thirsting for Living Water. Yes that water is already in you, Christ lives in you, but you can neglect what resides inside just as we ignore signs of heart trouble, muscle pain and other signs of our inner body, it is possible to ignore our spirit crying go connect with God’s Spirit in a manifest way.
I urge you to take time, to read the Scriptures, and pray. But don’t go through the motions and spout out an “Our Father..” spend some time seeking, listening, waiting, sharing your desire and thirst for His presence. If at first you feel nothing, keep trying, press past the instant gratification, and pour out your heart before God your Savior! Intimacy is the aim, you can make your requests and petitions later. Attend to your spiritual needs, then you will have the stamina and strength to do the rest. Amen.
