I hath of late developed quite an affinity for Saint Jeanne d’arc (also known as Joan of Arc). I can’t seem to pinpoint what has caused me to be so enthralled by her. I recollect being introduced to her life story when I twas a wee young lad, my brother sat with me as we watched one of adaptions (not the Messanger, the other TV made version). Recently, I decided to watch The Messanger and wast appalled by its depiction of Jeanne. It tis the first film I’ve seen that potrays her as a lunatic and that make Christ creepy, the entire film gave me major bad vibes. Thus, I decided in my outrage to investigate Jeanne’s life. I have spent considerable time online delving into articales and collectinng artwork of this famous dame. I recently purchased a play by Benarld Shaw titled “Saint Joan.” Not satisfied, I discovered that Mark Twain had written an account of her life: “Recollections of Joan of Arc,” a masterpiece he compiled after studying her life for fourteen years!
I suppose if a bystander wast to ask me why I am so smitten by this prestigious woman, I would reply that I am inspired by her faith, that she did God’s Will by liberating France during the Hundred Year War. I know that some historians argue that she twas mad, that she acted not on principle, but according to her own will. I frankly disagree, I think she was God’s Messanger. If it weren’t for her, there would be no France today. Can you imagine? An entire culture would not exist if it weren’t for this heroic lady. While I am found of British Histories and Literature, Jeanne has drawn me to my French roots. I’m even considering getting a literature major so that I may teach French Lit at my local college. I would love to talk, discuss, and debate Jeanne’s life in the classroom!
