The Diablo games were never on my radar as a Christian growing up. I was content to play Nintendo games with elf knights like Link and the plumber brothers Mario and Luigi. When I got older, I ventured into some RPGs like Fable, Knights of the Old Republic, and Lord of the Rings: War in the North, all of which I advise you avoid for they too have unhealthy spiritual influences. The Diablo Games did not appeal to me, for the titular character is Diabolus or the devil as we know him in Scripture, our great enemy, Satan. However, with the major success of Diablo IV reaching 666 Million in sales in only five days since launch (https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20230612864402/en/Diablo®-IV-Crosses-666-Million-Sell-Through-within-Five-Days-of-Launch-Setting-New-Blizzard-All-Time-Record), that number not being lost on me as the number of the Antichrist which is 666 (Revelation 13:18), I felt I should do some research on the universe of Diablo, and here is what I discovered:
Diablo is not just some silly game that uses motifs of the Devil and gothic designs, it is an insidious means to open people to heavy evils. One of the main characters, is the daughter of Mephisto, here name is Lilith. In Catholic teaching Lilith is Adam’s first wife and mother of all witches, she dabbling in darkness and magic leads her to being replaced by Eve. This is not found in any of the true and trusted Aramaic, Hebrew, or Greek Scriptures, it is an medieval invention of the Romanite religion (Roman Catholicism). However, Lilith’s function in the Diablo games is close to Scripture, she falls in love with an angel named Inarius of the High Heavens, and begets children named The Nephalem, which is close to Nephilim the children of angels and women in Genesis 6:4-6. Lilith is depicted in a sympathetic light as she and the angel Inarius create Sanctuary, a haven for those tired of the wars between heaven and hell.
More alarming is a cult of the Triune, which rather than try to put in my own words I will paste the official statement about it, “The Temple of the Triune (also known as the Cult of the Three or Cult of the Triune) was a cult that existed during the time of the Sin War. Whilst outwardly a benevolent religious body, in reality, it was formed by the Prime Evils to convert humanity to their side.” (Diablo Wiki). The Diablo or The Devil is one of the Prime Evils with Baal and Mephisto. The implication of this cult is that the Satan and hierarchs deceive man with The Triune, which is what we called God The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, One God in Three Persons (Triune, Trinity, Trinitas). So these Diablo games are planting in the minds of people that The Holy Trinity (Triune God) is a construct and creation of the devil to convert people to damnation, how utterly demonic and evil! The Triune God of the Bible is not evil but threw down The Diablo (Ezekiel 28:19-55, Revelation 12:9-11) and God has been a Triune God forever, see Genesis 1:26 for earliest proof that God is Triune, “we shall make man and women in our Image..” The New Testament affirms that God is Triune, The Holy Trinity (John 20:22-23, Matthew 28:19, 1 Peter 1:2).
The Diablo games claim mankind is the descendants of the Nephalem, thus children of Inarius and Lilith, when in reality God Flooded the Earth to destroy The Nephilim (Genesis 6:4-18) and says mankind is made in His Image.
These games by Blizzard are Satanic. You could say ditto, the name Diablo gives it away, but at 666 Million purchases in five days since release of Diablo IV, that means it is trendy, and there is no surprise on that score. Satanism is growing in The UK, The United States, and it no longer treated as a taboo cult, but has representation in Sabrina The Teenage Witch Netflix Series, where unlike her older Bewitched self serves Satan directly and even has a statue of the Sigil of Satan that the real Church of Satan sued over. Shows like Lucifer give that false Paradise Lost approach to the devil making him one to be pitied when the real Lucifer wants us all to fall away from The Triune God and burn with him forever, “And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever,” (Revelation 20:10), “Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:15), and “Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.” (Revelation 12:12).
There was a time when video game studios tried to seduce people with cute Pokemon like creatures and hide esoteric messages in plain sight; the devils then were disguised in light (2 Chronicles 11:14), now they can have adorned horns and flaming wings and be invited in people’s homes. There will be Christian parents who forbid their children play the Diablo games, to them I say you cannot police when your child visits a friend’s house and plays Diablo IV. To those parents I say pray, pray your children are sealed with a conscious of the Holy Spirit to be uneasy around such entertainments (1 Corinthians 12:10). For the children who scoff and think their parents are too strict. The Diablo games are full of mythology meant to undermine your faith in The Trinity, and plant seeds in your hearts and minds to grow into doubt. Is a game worth your soul? “There is no Sanctuary!,” to quote Logan from Logan’s Run. There is only heaven and there is hell, and in hell you don’t get to fight for the Prime Evils, you burn in dumb anguish forever! (Revelation 20:10, 15). Hell is not a fun house of flames and cool macabre armor, it is Dante’s Inferno without the interesting characters. Why would you imperil your soul with such Satanic ideas from a game named after Satan himself?
You may say I am an alarmist, that playing a game will not make you fall to perdition. Well you dance with the devil enough, even in your mind, and you risk allowing his lies like The Cult of Triune in Diablo The Games to deceive you away. For the Diablo is a liar, and father of lies, “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44). He doesn’t want to trick you like on Halloween, he wants to ensure you are tortured forever in hell, and that you miss God’s love and grace in Jesus Christ. The devil is not beneath using a video game, he uses music, movies, literature, and more to deceive and lead droves into damnation. Do not let him claim you as a casualty. Amen.
