Awesome God

In the West we like answers. We like to get our spirituality down to algorithm or Mathematical equation that can be solved. Westerners love answers, so the eastern concept of mystery and God is not obligated to reveal  answers to you has little appeal. Our Lord Jesus gave lots of answers, about Who He is, salvation, and more. And yet there were some sayings of His that stump us like “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple,” (Luke 14:26) and “In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!” (Mark 10:25). These statements frustrate our western sensibilities, but remember Christ came in the flesh to the Middle East, and while we may prefer the Greco-Roman style of straightforward Q&A, in the east this is not always so, in the East they recognize God has the right to befuddle his creation, force us to look at puzzling questions that transform us, and so show us He is God.

We like our God in a box. To so define and describe our Lord to the point what there are no surprises, as if God was on a script and that Script we can master. This is folly. God cannot be reduced to some lines of Latin or Greek, and then shelved; He is living and He has thoughts, a will, choices, and More. He is our Creator, and he is infinitely wiser than us. How can we presume to put our God in a set of mathematical limitations so that we may manage Him? What hubris! Yes Scripture tells us about Him, his qualities, character, and the truths we must know to be saved, know Him, and be with Him forever. But we are married to God, not a normal spouse! Our Bridegroom is our Creator and we do not set limits on Him! I am reminded of Job when God chastised him and said, “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much.” (Job 38:4).

God The Trinity deserves respect and reverence. He is not to be treated as some being subjected to our appetites and whims, He is our Maker and Savior, and we are to fear him, that is revere him, for it is written, “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell,” (Matthew 10:28), and “He wasn’t joking when he kicked them out of Eden, it wasn’t for no reason that He shed his blood, I hope we haven’t too quickly forgotten, that our God is an Awesome God.” (Rich Mullins).

Yes God is love (1 John 4:7-21) and He so loved us He sent His Son (John 3:16). But He is also an Awesome God and he deserves respect, reverence, and awe. He is Almighty and He is worthy of praise! Amen.

Israel’s Conquest of Canaan: The Nephilim and Giants

Christianity Today asserts that the conquest of Canaan can be a “stumbling block” for believers. This probably is because of a foolish idea of comparing it to a modern conquest happening in our world. The truth is that God had Israel conquer Canaan because it was ruled by evil giants, “We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.” (Numbers 13:33). These are Anakim or Nephilim, the children of angels and human women, “When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God (angels) saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. The...

Dispensationalism

John Nelson Darby (1800-1882) was a man who did two things, he took 70th week of the Book of Daniel and stretched out to the End Times, and he was the father of  Dispensationalism , a belief system that God dispenses different peoples with separate blessings and covenants. According to Darb'ys doctrine of Dispensationalism, God dispenses different covenants. There are total of seven dispensations that divide the history of man: I. Dispensation of Innocence (prior to the Fall, "Do not east of the Fruit of Good and Eve, Eden), II. Dispensation of Conscience ( You must assuage guilt and sin with blood sacrifices.) III. Dispensation of Human Government (Multiply and Subdue the world, example the Tower of Babel Gen 11:1-9, and Genesis 1:28). IV. Dispensation of the Promise (Dwell in Canaan, Jerusalem) V. Dispensation of the Law ("Obey the Law of Moses and the Prophets"). VI. Dispensation of Grace (The Church, Jesus Christ has come...

Jesus’ Name in Aramaic

There has been a trend to render Jesus’ name Hebrew, יֵשׁוּעַ , Yeshua. The problem is neither Christ nor his apostles, nor the Jews in 30-33 A.D. spoke Hebrew, they spoke Aramaic. A ramaic is the oldest language on earth and was the language Jesus spoke. In fact, the oldest Old Testament is the Septuagint a Greco translation around 132 B.C.E. (165 Years Before Christ)that was translated from Aramaic. The Masoretic Text, The Hebrew Old Testament most Bibles use, dates from 7th to 10th Century A.D. (Medieval Times).  This translation does not cross reference with the words of Christ in the New Testament which are Aramaic and Koine Greek.  If the Aramaic was what Jesus spoke, then by what name would have been called? Jesus’ name in Aramaic is Isho or Eesho, spelled ܝܫܘܥ . That is the name of our Lord in Aramaic! He would have heard his name in this dialect, “Hail Isho or Eesho!” as well as the Greek, Ἰ ησο ῦ ς , Iesous.  Aramaic is disappearing, only a few peop...
