Valentine’s Day has become a holiday synonymous with romance. It is a time predominately for couples to express their affections via gifts, dinner, and other means. For those who are single, recently divorced, or perhaps voluntarily celibate, V-Day seems rather devoid of meaning. How can someone who is single enjoy a holiday devoted to romantic love? The answer is found as almost all answers are, in the Scriptures.
The truth is you already are a couple, your husband is Christ Jesus! Yes, the Lord God is your significant other, and His romance was not a dinner and chocolates, but to die for us on a cross so that we are saved! Christ is our truest Valentine and has done something that surpasses all spouses, He laid His Life down for His bride, “Married men, love your wives, as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself up to death for her” (Ephesians 5:25).
Yes, we are the Bride of Christ:
“Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him.
For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear. For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.”” (Revelation 19:6-9),
“For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called.” (Isaiah 54:5)
“So that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” (Ephensians 5:27)
“Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the Lord, “I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.” (Jeremiah 2:2)
The truth is we always have a Valentine in Jesus. We are never not in a relationship, but rather He is with us always. Instead of letting V-Day make your feel left out, remind yourself you are already taken and can rejoice in the Lord Jesus your Bridegroom! Offer up exultation and spend time in communion (prayer and worship) with Christ! Be excited that Jesus is always your Valentine and He unlike dates, will never forsake you or let you go!, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else.[a] No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.” (John 10:26-30). Amen.
