Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek has always contained religious themes and influences. The Vulcans share much commonality with Jews and even made Shema with their hand. The Borg have resemble to a conquest religion and the Klingons have a religion of light m, Khalless, whom they worship. For the first time I saw Our Faith, Christianity, displayed! In Star Trek: Voyager, Season 4, Episode 21: The Omega Directive, Capt. Janeway and her crew are tasked with neutralizing omnipotent and all powerful Omega particles that can be harness for ultimate travel or destroy travel, warp speed, space raptures and etc. Near the end, Seven of Nine, a Borg rescue, gazed into Omega as it stabilizes and sees perfection and afterwards she is found on holodeck gazing at a Crucifix, our God and Savior on the cross dying for our sins (1 Peter 2:24, 1 Peter 3:18). Seven tells Capt. Janeway that she when she watched Omega it was watching her and that she dismissed religious explanations for this phenomenon as “trivial,” but now she believes she was wrong. To this Capt. Janeway says, “Seven if I did not know you better, I would say you had your first spiritual experience.” The fact that Seven gazed at a Crucifix and that is the last religious image we see after Omega is Jesus on cross is amazing! After all Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this message for the churches. I am both the source of David and the heir to his throne.[e] I am the bright morning star.” (Revelation 22:12, 16), and, “8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Fear not, I am the first and the last (Alpha and Omega, Alpha is First letter in Hreek and Omega is last letter in Greek), 18 and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.“ (Revelation 1:8, 18).
I am thrilled that Jesus our Lord got the last word and scene on this episode. It was subtle way to tell viewers without bebeing no to preachy that the Alpha and Omega is Jesus Christ. I am elated that the producers of Voyager were so bold to do The Omega Directive and show glimpse of the Alpha and Omega on the Cross.
