There are two instances of whipping in the New Testament. The First is Jesus making a whip out of cords and driving out the money changers: “So Jesus made a whip out of cords , and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.” (John 2:15-17). The second instance of whipping is Jesus himself receiving the whip for our transgressions: “Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged with lead tipped whips. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head.
