It is remarkable how easy it is to fall on to the broad path, even as a Christian. We get swept up in our culture and our need for friends. We stifle our conscience, and silence the Spirit to have our own supremacy over our lives. We become drones, walking with undead masses, numbing ourselves with our tonics and addictions.
The problem is this broad path leads to death, and not just in a casket, but The Second Death of Fire and torment for eternity. It is possible that walking with the godless long enough can lead you to be godless hence the Lord’s warning, “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership can righteousness have with wickedness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14), and “You cannot drink [both] the Lord’s cup and the cup of demons. You cannot share in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons [thereby becoming partners with them], Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?” (1 Corinthians 10:21-22). We cannot think that we can marry, befriend, and be close to people on the broad path when we are on The Narrow Way, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14).
It behooves us as Christians to take this seriously. Yes we are saved by grace and faith in Christ alone (Romans 10:9-10, Ephesians 2:8-9, Philippians 3:9, John 3:16-19). However, if you walk the broad path with the doomed, you will either end up as one savesld by fire, “If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames,” (1 Corinthians 3:14-15) or if possible you too will be led astray from pure devotion to Christ, “But I am afraid that, even as the serpent beguiled Eve by his cunning, your minds may be corrupted and led away from the simplicity of [your sincere and] pure devotion to Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3). I advise you not invest time with the broads, rather remain close to the Narrow walkers who will keep their eyes fixed on Christ (Hebrews 12:2). Remember to be careful that you do not caste your prize among wild dogs and swine, “Do not give that which is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, for they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” (Matthew 7:6). Remeber dogs in those days were pagans, non-Jews, and demons entered hogs/ pigs, “And the demons begged Him, saying, “If You are going to cast us out, send us into the herd of pigs.” And He said to them, “Go!” And they came out and went into the pigs; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters” (Matthew 8:31-32). That is the destructive power of being among those on the broad path, who are hogs and eat at the table of demons! (1 Corinthians 10:21). Have nothing to do with them! Amen.
