“In the gospel, the whole truth is clearly contained." -Zwingli
We never tire of the gospel. We return to the scene of Jesus crucified in liturgies, Scripture, and Easter because the central truth is therein contained. God came to rescue sinners, and He did it through a brutal death of the cross. The image of Christ Crucified mesmerizes us because it is The Gospel in an image. The Four Gospels in our Bible all contain teachings from Jesus, some have eschatology, others details about His birth, but all contain an in depth account of our Lord’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection. Because in that is the goos news, the truth that sets us free, that God became a man to bear the sins of all man and reconcile man to God, rather than leave us in the bitter cold separation and self delusion of earning heaven by good works, The Son of God tore down the veil of separation and earns heaven by His completed work ok the cross.
We never tire of the evangelion, for it is the centerpiece of our faith, that Jesus came to save us on a cross, to suffer and die, and ride again from death. We are told by the apostle to keep Remebering it till Jesus returns, “For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are proclaiming the Lord’s death until he comes again.” (1 Corinthians 11:26). The Eucharist, The Lord’s Supper, The Communion is a proclomafiin of The Gospel, of our Lord Jesus’ Passion till He comes again!
The Good News is to be ever present in our Christian life. On our lips, and in our hearts. We ad Paul cry, “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2). The Crucified Lord is to be preached!, “But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
That no flesh should glory in his presence.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:” (1 Corinthians 1:23-30). Amen.
