I ordered a pectoral cross that contained the Head of Christ with the words IC XC Nika which is “Jesus Christ Conquers.” I received the cross and instead of those letters it reads “IO XO Nik” when you look up these Greek letters they are to pagan gods:
“Io/ IO was, in Greek mythology, one of the mortal lovers of Zeus. An Argive princess, she was an ancestor of many kings and heroes, such as Perseus, Cadmus, Heracles, Minos, Lynceus, Cepheus, and Danaus. The astronomer Simon Marius named a moon of Jupiter after Io.” (google search) Io is essentially one of those mortal women that this fallen angel Zeus made a lover, “The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.” (Genesis 6:4).
XO is the Greek god Orpheus, “Orpheus is a figure from ancient Greek mythology, most famous for his virtuoso ability in playing the lyre or kithara. His music could charm the wild animals of the forest, and even streams would pause and trees bend a little closer to hear his sublime singing. He was also a renowned poet, travelled with Jason and the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece, and even descended into the Underworld of Hades to recover his lost wife Eurydice. Orpheus was seen as the head of a poetic tradition known as Orphism where, according to some scholars, adherents performed certain rituals and composed or read poems, texts, and hymns, which included an alternative view of humanity's origins. Orpheus is widely referenced in all forms of ancient Greek art from pottery to sculpture.” (https://www.worldhistory.org/Orpheus/)
Nik is short of Nike who was the goddess of victory, “NIKE (Nicé) was the winged goddess of victory--victory both in war and in peaceful competition. When Zeus was gathering allies at the start of the Titan War, Styx brought her four children Nike (Victory), Zelos (Rivalry), Kratos (Cratus Strength) and Bia (Force) into the god's service.” (google search). Its interesting the famous brand of clothing is named after this goddess.
I find that this cross I ordered being altered to honor pagan gods very alarming. Its suppose to be IC XC Nika (Jesus Christ Conquers), not IO XO Nik (Io lover of Zeus, god Orpheus, and goddess Nike). All icons in Eastern Orthodoxy have IC XC, this was a purposeful alteration to honor pagan gods rather than the True God Jesus Christ! I recommend if you have any Greek, Slavic, or any other kind of artwork, jewelry, and etc, that you verify it has the proper christogram and words that spell Jesus’ name and not that of false gods! Be vigilant. Amen.
