We often attribute the major moments and interventions to God the Trinity. Erroneously the Church can think the Lord is content to move only mountains and slay giants before us. We can forget He is a tender God who does not miss a moment of our lives, who knows every hair that has been on our head, “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows,” (Luke 12:7) and who collects every tear in His bottle, “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” (Psalm 56:8 NIV).
The tendency is to think our Lord God Trinity as One concerned with the more dramatic events in the world, and while He is involved in those, He cares about your aching heart, He knows every sorrow in your soul like hairs upon you head that He numbered! When you sob in solitude, our Savior is there, as present with you as with me and Christians at the same time; relating intimately to you and your heart. We must remember that Jesus is not a foreigner to sorrow and stress, on the contrary, “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53:3). Christ our Lord wept, “Then Jesus cried tears,” (John 11:35) and even sweated blood, “And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” (Luke 22:44). Our God knows the sorrows and pain we carry, He carries it too and promises a day when our tears will cease to fill the bottles, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (Revelation 21:4).
Until then, let us take comfort that our Lord and Savior keeps our tears in His book (Psalm 56:8) and that no suffering in this life can He not share with us. May we begin to see our Lord is close and tender God who wants to help us carry our sorrows and who collects every drop in His book. Amen.
