The Passover and The Passion: The Two Passovers


The Lord God is a passionate God. He loves us with a fervor that cannot be estimated. In the Old Testament the Hebrews celebrated in Egypt Passover, a feast that commemorated their deliverance from the bondage of Egypt. During this First Passover, the angel of death cake and killed every first born of Egypt (Exodus 12:23) and only exempted those who had lamb’s blood on the doorpost (Exodus 12:7). The result of this plague of death was Pharaoh not only letting the Israelites go but also the spoils of Egypt (Exodus 12:35-36). Passover was a celebration that death passed over the people of the Lord and has New Testament fulfillment. 

Everything that happens in the Old Testament physically happens eternally and spiritually in the New Testament. In the Old death passed over God’s chosen ones and they got the spoils of gold and treasures of Egypt while in the New Testament the Second death passes over us Christians and the Lamb if God, Jesus Christ’s blood covers us and gives us not the spoils of Egypt but the spoils of eternal life! 

The Passover becomes the Passion of God. In both cases death passes over us, and Jesus tasted death for us, “Yes, by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone,” (Hebrews 2:9), He holds the keys to death now, “I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades,” (Revelation 1:18) and, the second death has no power over us, “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Whoever is victorious (stands firm in the faith see Matthew 24:13 and Revelation 14:12) will not be harmed by the second death.” (Revelation 2:11). Jesus’ death conquers both physical death and the second death (hell, Revelation 20:10, 15). We who have faith and trust in Jesus Christ our Lord and God are passed over by death and hades! This is what Jesus means by He holds the keys of death and hades, He keeps them from having dominion over us and He is the resurrection life that will raise our dead bodies to new life!, “Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?,” (John 11:25), and, “Now about the dead rising--have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? So he is the God of the living, not the dead. You have made a serious error.”(Mark 12:26-27). God is life, Jesus who is God and the Son of God is life (John 1:3-5, Colossians 1:16, and John 14:6). Those who believe and confess Jesus as Lord God have eternal life (John 6:40), resurrection life (1 Thessalonians 5:7-8), and abide in God who is life (1 John 4:15, John 17:20-23). Death has passed us over in all forms! Jesus’ death and sacrifice on the cross for our sins has broken death’s power!, “because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death,” (Romans 8:2, cross ref Hebrews 2:14, 1 Corinthians 15:55-57). Death can no longer hold us just as it did not hold Christ who rose from the grave! (John 20:1-53). 


The Passover can be adopted in the prism of the New Covenant. We can celebrate that death and sin now passes over us because of the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ, and His death! In fact, churches do celebrate the New Passover called Holy Week; Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Resurrection Sunday. The Jews keep The Passover of Egypt holy, and we Christians keep the Passover of Eternal Life Holy; that the God who gave the Jews Passover and deliverance has come in a body and delivered all mankind from the power of sin, separation from God and death by His death on the cross.  So we celebrate The Passion Passover every year and we remember that God The Trinity is a passionate God who is so in love with us He died for His bride (all mankind, see 2 Corinthians 5:15) and whoever believes in Him and loves Him back will receive not only the spoils of Egypt but the spoils of Eternity and the promise of living with God in His Kingdom forever and ever. Amen.

Dispensationalism

John Nelson Darby (1800-1882) was a man who did two things, he took 70th week of the Book of Daniel and stretched out to the End Times, and he was the father of  Dispensationalism , a belief system that God dispenses different peoples with separate blessings and covenants. According to Darb'ys doctrine of Dispensationalism, God dispenses different covenants. There are total of seven dispensations that divide the history of man: I. Dispensation of Innocence (prior to the Fall, "Do not east of the Fruit of Good and Eve, Eden), II. Dispensation of Conscience ( You must assuage guilt and sin with blood sacrifices.) III. Jesus’ Name in Aramaic

There has been a trend to render Jesus’ name Hebrew, יֵשׁוּעַ , Yeshua. The problem is neither Christ nor his apostles, nor the Jews in 30-33 A.D. spoke Hebrew, they spoke Aramaic. A ramaic is the oldest language on earth and was the language Jesus spoke. In fact, the oldest Old Testament is the Septuagint a Greco translation around 132 B.C.E. (165 Years Before Christ)that was translated from Aramaic. The Masoretic Text, The Hebrew Old Testament most Bibles use, dates from 7th to 10th Century A.D. (Medieval Times).  This translation does not cross reference with the words of Christ in the New Testament which are Aramaic and Koine Greek.  If the Aramaic was what Jesus spoke, then by what name would have been called? Jesus’ name in Aramaic is Isho or Eesho, spelled ܝܫܘܥ . That is the name of our Lord in Aramaic!
