Le Hero Oblivion

Times have changed, values have shifted, and the hero has undergone a transformation. In the days of old a hero was known by his valor, his virtue, and his good deeds. He took the form of a White Knight clad in full platemail or he worn the glorious green of infantry. Alas gone are these images, replaced by sullen, morbid faces and attire that is as black and torn as the Grim Reaper's cloak. It seems the masses are more interested in the anti-hero, the man or woman who does not seek to do what is right, but stumbles upon the right decision in the end. The anti-hero is disturbed, an outcast, he wants nothing to do with society, he would rather watch the world burn from confines of his isolated haven. The line between good and evil has been blurred, gone is black and white, in its place shades of grey. I remember the days when you could be certain who was the hero and the villan by their outfits. Typically the hero wore white or light colored araiment (usuall...

The Dark Age of Gaming :(

The Golden Age of Gaming is over. The days of thrill and perpetual amusement have passed away like rain on the mountains. I find myself rather dismayed to type such words, I grew up on the Nintendo NES . I was introduced to The Super Mario Bros . at five years of age by my brother. Since then I have been faithful gamer, I have watched that italian plumber grow and evolve, I have joined super soliders on the battlefield of Halo , and I have hoped and prayed for games with morales to be released. I remember when I once was so enthralled, so captivated by video games. The countless days I spent playing The Legend of Zelda: Orcarina of Time , the months I relished playing Paper Mario, and  The years I spent helping Master Chief repel Covenant Forces in the Halo Trilogy.   For a portion of my life lies within these digital narratives. Many have made inquiry of me of why I and large portion of the populuce have been so enchanted by video games. They ask ...

Psycholicious

There are subjects we relish, that we adore, and find ourselves enthralled by and then there are those that are challenge to enjoy. One subject I found to be battle this semester was Psychology. Which at first was quite perplexing, for I am a certified Christian Counselor. I discovered as I spent more time in the class that Psychology is multi-faceted, that there are different avenues and threads that stem from it. One thread is scientific, another medical, and another side emotional. I found myself quite enlightened as I studied the six types of psychology: Psychoanalyisis (Freud), Behavioral, Humanistic, Cogntive, Bio-Medical, & Social . Pyschoanalitical Psychology : Pyscholoanalyisis has to do with subconcious, with supressed desires, dreams, and feelings that remain in unconcious. The father of this type of psychology is Sigmund Freud, who was criticised for his emphasis on the sexual. Despite his fixation on fetishs, Freud is right that we as people tend to supress...

The Sword

Since the Fall, man has made weapons. Cain created a club or used jaw bone to slay Abel. While these tools have been used to hew or crush our fellow man, they also have been used to hunt for food and defend our beloved ones. A weapon is not evil, it is who wields it that determins if it used for good or ill. We live in golden age of weaponry, we have rifles that can dispatch a target from twelve miles away, chemical devices that can annihilate an entire country and of course we are developing plasma and laser technology. It won't be long before we are waging war like in Star Wars. However, as weaponry has evolved, war has lost its intimacy. Typically when we envision a liberator, it is not someone wielding a AK-47 or a M16. It is the romantic figure of a man clad in plate mail wielding a sword. I mentioned before the intimacy of warefare has been lost. Gone are the days when men fought face to face, blade to blade. It was different then, you had to look into...

Make For The Crusade!

I am not ashamed of the crusades. I appreciate the efforts of those who fought to liberate Europe from the Turks. I am dismayed by the reputation the Crusades has recieved. Christians are taught to be appalled, to look with disdain upon the Crusades. Biased historians want us to beleive the Christians rode to the Holy Land seeking land, titles, and treasuries. Yet they fail to read the accounts of knights and families that went bankrupt in process of aqauiring revenues to go on Crusade. The gain would never repay the sacrifice of these men, these soldiers of Christ. They did not go with sinister hearts, they went to deliver their opressed brethern and then repay the saracen for their invasion. You have to understand Medieval tactics, if you invade my land, if you take my abode, I am obligated to do the same to you. Some call it an eye for eye, but really it was a way to convey power, to express that you are not weak and will not tolerate injustice. We criticise those...

Jane Eyre: A Review

I began the semester quite unaware of the story of "Jane Eyre." I had heard of it prior, but payed little heed. To mee it twas of little interest. When I was informed we would be reading Charolette Bronte's masterpiece, I didn't shrug or sigh, I was curious what kind of tale we would forgo. Upon reading Bronte's story, I must say it has impacted and influenced me. The issues contained within this novel range from class, rights, injustice, theology, and ever issue under the sun. While there is not a lack of controversy, Jane Eyre provides a lense to look upon the society of the time. Most religious insitutions were mere prisions meant to shape the behaviors of young women. Propriety is the practice of society, to behave in any conduct no befitting is looked upon with disdain. Abuse is overlooked, especially in regards to children. Love is nearly lost on the tip of avarice and servanthood. Jane is perhaps one of the most complex characters ever written. Even ri...

The Knight Life

In the mud I wade in my blood. My armor rendered asunder: my helm hewn in two, my blade dulled and my shield in shambles. There in my pond I look upon my foes, a great pile like a mile. My brothers lay strewn around me, some still breathing, others fleeing. All of us bleeding. The weight is so heavy, my arms so weary, I grow tired of fighting, I long to remain lying. The goblin horde descends upon us with their swords, devoid of the Lord, they prepare to gut us some more. With the last ounce of my strenght, I rise to meet my enemy. I pray God keep me as I lean on my blade like a cain. The demon assails me, I go a tumbling, into the mud and blood, there to strangle love. It claws, it tares, it trys to weaken my armor. I reach and take, its neck I did break. There in a sea he is no more, while I float evermore. The horde circles me, it begins raining. The weight pulls me beneath, suffocating, agonizing to breath. This is not what I imagined, no one told me ...

Apocalpyse Now

According to  Harold Camping , tonight at 6:00pm is the Rapture. Tonight is the Apocalpyse. Camping has told his faithful radio listeners that May 21 is the Day of the Lord, the Second Coming. He has promised those that hath purchased his sacred Bible and who have tuned in fervantly to his sermons will be caught up. As for the rest of us believers that doubt him, to the Flaming Depths we shall be caste. Camping declares that by his mathmatical eqaution (featured at end of this post.)   He is certain today is the day the Lord shall return. Yet for some reason he ignores the scriptures that read:  " However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows " -Matt 24:36 & Mark 13:32 .  So if Christ himself part is uncertain of when he shall begin The Reckoning, how does this fella know? Why him? How come he got the memo and the rest of us are in the ...

Is This What God Wants?

It tis so easy to become ensnared by the trap of preformance. One minute we are enjoying the bliss of a subject, or a task and when we shine, we excell, the dreaded expectiation is concieved. Suddenly what was once a joy, what was sheer ecstacy has became a burden, a yoke upon your shoulders. You feel like shell, opressed by the expectations of the unseen, and the seen. You carry those books, which were once light, like ten ton weights on your back. A task which was exciting is now devoid of enjoyment. Such is the preformance trap. I'm not saying we shouldn't strive for excellent, or attempt to do our best. However, in midst of excellence is a beast that seeks to sink its teeth into us. This monster takes are value and calculates it by letters A, B, C, D, F. It crunches the numbers, 15k, 20k, 30k, 50k. Suddenly our entire being, who we are is summed up by these numbers, by how we measure up in academics or the job market. Tis sad, for this was not what God meant for us. H...

Politics & Social Beliefs

I am a Conservative Republic , although I am not partisian , if I deem a Democrate or Independant a better canadite, I shall vote for them . I look at prinicples, ethics, policies, and beliefs when deciding whom I shall vote for. I am most concerned with a canadits stand on the issues, his former polices (an example: what his or her voting record on Abortion is) and of course his values. I do not equate ethnicity into my vote, I will not discrimnate if the person running for office is black, white, orange or blue . I don’t decriminate gender either, I would vote for a woman president if I like her position on the major issues and if I believed she was competent enough for the job. My stand on social issues are: I am Pro-Life , I am Pro-Israel, I am against Same Sex Marriage , I am Eco-Responsbile (Not a tree hugger, but not industrial monster, I believe in being a good steward of the Earth, but not to the extent of making people suffer economically or h...

Confessions of a Bibliophil

Not to be confused with a fetish, Bibliophilia is when someone collects, hordes, and adores literature. While some find comfort in alchole, opiums, and other addictions, Bibliophils relish books. They crave literium, they flock to sanctums like Barnes & Noble and Libraries. A true Bibliophil will choose a new book over food, or manuscript over a movie. I am a Bibliophil, I am addicted, nay obessed with the written word. I am currently building my own library, if ye would want to find me, thou need only look in the nearest book store. There everyone knows my name, they no longer ask if I'm a member at B&N. I confess that I tend to purchase three to four books a week. My mother dost try to dismay, to dissuade me from buying so many texts, she says I shall want the revenues for my trip. How can I stop? The novels, histories, classics, philosophies, doctrines, and fairytales they call to me! My summer reading list tis quite ridiculous. I have over twenty ti...

Religiosio

As I hath disclosed in about me, I am religious. I have been a Christian since I twas five years of age. I have fervantly and diligently borne the Holy Rood and fallowed my King Jesu. I have made pilgrimage to The Holy Land thrice, and I intend to visit holy sites all over Europe. Ye might call me a zealot (in the positive sense) or the common term Jesus Freak. I am not ashamed, I shall never cease to proclaim Christ’s name. To deny my faith, is to deny myself, to withholld the Lord is to deny oxygen to my lungs. My love for Elohim, for The Holy Trinity goes far beyond ritual. I have relationship with him, a intimate connection that has been cultivated and fostered over a decade. As for my denomination, I affilate with multitude of different believers. I frankly loath how denominations sperate the Body of Christ, I believe it is the scheme of Evil One to cause disunity, for Christ in Garden of Gethesaname prayed that we, his children, his body, would be one, as he and Father...

Amore Amore

I dost believe in True Love, in the fairytale that there is one individual on this earth who was meant for me. I believe in this fallen Eden exists my Eve and that I shall spend my life seeking for her and being worthy of her affections. I am a  hopeful romantic , I imagine and contrive in my mind what a life with my bride shall be like. I adore love stories, among my favorites are: The Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet, A Walk to Remember, Tristan & Isolde, The Last Song, The Notebook, Anna & The King, Elizabethtown, The Holiday and ETC . I believe love tis multi-demensional , that it is triad: Ria, Ahava, and Dode (The Three Loves) . I believe there is the Friendship love (Ria) , also called brotherly love. This kind of love is plutonic and tends to be devoid of intimate physical affection, although hand shakes and hugs are common. Then there is the deep emotional connection (Ahava) , the love that makes you sick, obessesed, that makes yo...

Jeanne d’arc

I hath of late developed quite an affinity for Saint Jeanne d’arc (also known as Joan of Arc). I can’t seem to pinpoint what has caused me to be so enthralled by her. I recollect being introduced to her life story when I twas a wee young lad, my brother sat with me as we watched one of adaptions (not the Messanger, the other TV made version). Recently, I decided to watch The Messanger and wast appalled by its depiction of Jeanne. It tis the first film I’ve seen that  potrays her as a lunatic and that make Christ creepy,  the entire film gave me major bad vibes. Thus, I decided in my outrage to investigate Jeanne’s life. I have spent considerable time online delving into articales and collectinng artwork of this famous dame. I recently purchased a play by Benarld Shaw titled “Saint Joan.” Not satisfied, I discovered that Mark Twain had written an account of her life: “Recollections of Joan of Arc,” a masterpiece he compiled after studying her life for...
