Reformation Day

Tomorrow is 499 Anniversary of Reformation Day! On October 31st, 1517 Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis on the City Church door in Wittenberg. He also sent a letter with his grievances to the Bishop of Augsburg which is how we are sure October 31st is the proper date. The Reformation was a Godsend to get us back to the source, The Gospel and the Holy Bible. Martin Luther was not the sole proprietor of this Reformation, there were forerunners such as Jan Hus and contemporaries such as J ohn Calvin, John Wycliffe, John Bunyan, Zwingli, and many more. Ironically, this is the first Reformation  Day that The Roman Catholic Church will be honoring, Pope Francis I is paid homage to Luther and the Reformation for first time in history. Being a Church history buff I often have to debunk people who say Protestantism is only 499yrs old. The truth is Protestantism stood on this humanist motto, " E pluribus unum : Back to the Sources." While Renaissance humanists championin...

The Centrality of the Cross

There are many in this day and age who are ashamed of the cross of Christ. Churches in America tare down the image of Christ's suffering in their sanctuaries, steeples, and place instead contemporary designs that are ambiguous and ambivalent. While some of these who have forsaken the cross argue that Early Christians used the Ichythus (Fish), Lamb, and more secretive symbols, I must protest and say that the Apostle Paul, who under Holy Spirit's direction wrote most of the New Testament, did not hide the importance of the cross, " May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world ," (Galatians 6:14), " For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ ," (Phillippians 3:18), " For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of G...

Nothing Sacred

Hollywood has always ben unholy. The constant assault on Christian values can be found in Dan Brown's adaptations, and constant barrage of antichrist films and shows. The last list of sacrilegious stories are " Impastor " (2015-2016) which is series about pastor who has visits from pretty women congregants to have sex with him in his apartment, "Still the King" with Billy Ray Cyrus being a charlatan minister having sex with young girls, and antichrist author Dan Brown's latest adaptation " Inferno " (2016) where Tom Hanks seeks to stop a insane man who wants to make Revelation Chapters 8 and 9 come true. Not to mention the sympathetic series to Satan called "Lucifer," (Jan 25, 2016) the antichurch " Spotlight ," (2015) as well as the plethora of other subversive shows and films. The attack is always slanted towards the Alpha and Omega, but He told us this would be so " If the world hates you, remember that it hated me ...

Rules: The Double Standard

It is quite interesting how in our day and age no one wants to obey sacred rules or laws. Atheists protest "The Ten Commandments" being placed on civic buildings, and today many of younger generations are in full fledge anarchy and seeking their own October Revolution or Hippy Movement . Angry atheists and skeptics decry, "you church people have rules, and control people!" And yet these same people want people to abide by the rules when it comes to society, and depend on the Police who actually enforce The Ten Commandments (specifically the last five). Another hypocrisy is that we Christians are persecuted by today's culture claiming we are "goody two shoes, legalists, and religious fanatics" for following the Law of Christ (Galatians 6:2) and yet these same people want rules to be followed in their favorite sports, crying afoul when referee does not see an injustice on the field. Or perhaps the outcry over politicians not holding to the rules the...

Birds on A Wire: The Connection Crisis

There is a connection crisis taking place in every country. This crisis stems from the advent and inclusion of technology into every facet of our daily lives. Formerly, we humans spent more time interacting with each other in conversation, in person, and bonding through experiences in the same room, nature setting, movie theater, and etc. Now due to technologies man and woman spend more time interacting over a computer, smartphone, tablet, and other devices. As a result more and more people becoming antisocial, in the sense they would rather stay in and watch Netflix or talk via text, than go out with people, and even should they have an outing, they end up on their phones, not relating to the same person next to them. This crisis is reaching cataclysmic levels, as people now are developing social disorders, called attachment defect disorder . While generally, this disorder is believed to begin  in the formative years of children, there is evidence that it is effecting adults. M...

Asceticism and Antony the Great

I was recently reading the Life of Antony the Great of Egypt and I was sadden by the erroneous beliefs he held. For one he believed devils and demons could be stronger than heavily hosts and had freedom to harm him physically and emotionally when Scripture says, " Greater is He (Jesus) who is in you than he that is in the world ," (1 John 4:4), " Submit therefore to God and resist the devil and he shall flee ," (James 4:7) and, most importantly, " Behold, I have given you authorit y to tread on serpents (serpent is the English of the Hebrew word Seraphim, which is an angel with six wings see Isaiah 6:2) and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt y ou." (Luke 10:19). Antony's greatest sin is his account that Satan came to him and admitted he is a worm and defeated by God, something the devil never has done in all of Scripture; and if the devil had admitted his defeat it surely would have been to Christ Himself in the...
