Prodigal Time

I've read The Parable of The Prodigal Son many times and heard the pontifications of preachers on the parable. The typical interpretation of the son who squanders his inheritance and ends up eating with the pigs is pretty straightforward. However, recently I discovered a different way of looking at this story. When we think of inheritance it usually equates to money or land. It is something of worth that our ancestor or in most cases father and mother has saved for us. So what is God's inheritance to man? Well according to Genesis, Terra Firma or Earth is our inheritance. The Almighty bequeathed us an entire planet to steward and subdue. However, I argue there is another inheritance that Our Father in Heaven has given his children. That inheritance is Time. God has given us seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years. We are allotted a specific number of these measurements of time and then we will die. What if the point of the Parable of the Prodigal Son isn't jus...

Star Trek: Into Darkness *Major Spoilers* Review

Having adequate time to think about Abrams' latest installment in the Star Trek Legacy, I must opine on those details I refrained from divulging in the previous post. Star Trek: Into Darkness at it's heart is a film about duality. Captain James T. Kirk finds not only his nemesis but himself in the polar opposite extreme. Both Kirk and Khan (yes Khan) are one and the same. Kirk thinks he is invincible, Khan is invincible. Kirk considers his crew his family, Khan considers his crew his family. Kirk and Khan both have extreme tempers and act ruthlessly. Khan or John Harrison as he is known in the first half of the film is bent on destroying Starfleet. Khan is a perfect organism. He has rapid-regenerating D.N.A that allows him to heal rapidly (think Wolverine), incredible strength (think Bane) and an intellect that rivals Spock. In fact, Khan is the combination of Kirk, Spock, and Nero. What is ironic is that Khan is both Kirk and Spock's enemy and their salvation. Khan sa...

Star Trek: Into Darkness *Minimum Spoilers* Review

I've just returned from seeing the sequel to J.J. Abram's Star Trek. Going into the film I already had surmised who the villain would be. However, I shall endeavor in this review to leave spoilers to a minimum. Many purists have made their protestations regarding Abrams move into an alternate timeline/reality. These Trekkie Truists have deemed Abram an Ahab and the new voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise as an abomination. With respect to those that have strong feelings about The Star Trek Universe, the new direction Abrams is taking is for a new generation. This new saga isn't meant to be compared with the The Original Series and Movies. Like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and Enterprise,  Abram's is taking Star Trek boldly where it has never gone before. The pacing and feel of these films aren't suppose to be same as Gene Rodenberry's masterpieces. Abrams is a new ...

Accepting Suffering

We live in a delusional world, where the mantra is "be happy." We are told by psychologists and preachers that we should get positive. At the pulpit in some Churches they say that God will bless you and give you much. It is true the Bible says, "I came to give you life abundantly." (John 10:10, KJV). However, it also says, "If the shepherd suffers, won't the sheep suffer?" (Matthew 24:9, NLT). I don't think Christ wanted us to suffer or enjoys it at our expense. I believe he thinks what he has been thinking since Eden, 'this is the fruit of your choice.' We are reaping the consequences of our ancestors. Adam and Eve began the suffering that we must endure. Because of Satan and Man's rebellion we have been exposed to afflictions, pestilences, hardship, hurt, and inevitably death. That was the package the devil didn't divulge. Now, Jesus Christ has redeemed us. In him we are born again, but we are still bound to a fallen world. We ...

The Terrible Truth About Video Games

I have discovered some very depressing and disturbing news. Having delved into some of the origins of famous Video Game franchises and their inspiration for characters I have uncovered an underworld of Satanic and Pagan influence.   I learned a month ago that Bowser, the main antagonist of the Mario Bros. Series gets his name from the Japanese which means: 大魔王クッパ Daimaō Kuppa "Great Demon King Koopa." ( http://www.mariowiki.com/Bowser ). I learned last week that Zelda comes from a demon too! According to a a researcher, "It's true. The demon Zelda, according to 15th century writings, is the primary object of worship of Bulgarian paganism . Amongst their followers runs the belief that, by destroying innocent souls by concealed means , (such as videogames?!), Zelda will rise not only above Satan, but also above God himself.." ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111119200508AAo4V8L ). Delving further into other characters that are f...

The Two Sides of Technology

Technology is moving at such a rapid rate that few (even the most savy nerds) can keep up. Technology has offered us tools that have changed how we organize our lives and how we relate to our world. Technology is a double-sided sword; it has the power to inform and create and the power to infect and destroy. It is like a cybernetic drug, that if used correctly can cure the disease of ignorance and incompetence, but if used poorly can pervert cause the patient to perish. Technology in It's pure form is capable of the following virtues: T eaching E ducate C reativity H eal N avigate O pen-mind L earn G row Y earn Technology can help teachers teach students diverse subjects. It can help educate the unlearned or ignorant. It can be used for great creativity such as art, music, film, video games, and etc. It can help people access methods to heal emotionally, spiritually, and physically; you can find sites, videos, and eBooks that will help you heal. It can ...

The Matrix Has You...

I was recently watching the film The Matrix. During a scene when Morpheus is giving Neo a lecture in a training program Morpheus says something profound. He says: "The Matrix is a system Neo, that system is our enemy. Look around you, what do you see? Businessmen, lawyers, carpenters, the very minds we are trying to save. But while they are attached to that system they are our enemy. You have to understand that many of these people aren't ready to see what I'm going to show you. These people are helplessly dependent on that system." Shortly after this monologue, Morpheus freezes the program when an Agent (Smith) appears with desert eagle pistol pointed at Neo. Morpheus continues by saying, "If you are not one of us, you are one of them. Sentient programs. Agents of the system. Anyone who isn't unplugged is potentially an agent." The Matrix or the System exists. It isn't a computer program, it is the world system Satan has deputed us into believ...
