Light-Bearer

Today I heard a sermon by Pastor Dave, at Hertiage Bible Church. During his pontifications he shared a story about a Light House Keeper who recieved a shipment of oil to power the light in the beacon. After obtaining the oil, the Light Keeper was approached by three individuals in need. One was woman who need some oil for a lamp to keep her and her family warm. The second was a sailor who needed some oil for his lantern. The third person was mechanic who need oil to grease some parts and fix them. Seeing that all these needs we ligitament, the Light-Bearer gave each person some oil. Later the Keeper discovered he hadn't sufficent oil to power the beacon's light and it went out. Causequently, several ships wrecked and many lives were lost. The authorities procecuted the Light-Bearer and when they inquired about the oil, the Light Houseman said he gave it away to noble causes. The authorities judged the man guilty and they said to him "you didn't use the oil for what ...

Peacekeepers

We must strive to be peacekeepers in our relationships. Don't let others steal your peace and insert rage or other unstable feelings. While anger is not invalid, don't let it pollute your soul. Use it to develop not to destroy. May your goal be to improve the relationship not make yourself feel better by venting everything that frustrates you in an outburst. Stay cool and calm, maintain the peace in your soul and let the energy that wants to turn into rage or poisonous words become the fuel for a productive answer to the problem. There will inevitably be people who want to rob you of that peace in your soul. They will assail your wall with words and sometimes even physical contact. They will use powers to manipulate your emotions and get you to give in to festering impulses. If you submit to this process and allow yourself to lured into the snare, you will find the worst part of yourself being fed. There is a darkness inside us all. Like the Jedi say, "we must ever be...

Mad Jack

"A British soldier fought in WW II with a longbow, bagpipes, and a broadsword!! ...Soldier 7 Lieutenant Colonel John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming Churchill, or more commonly known as “Fighting Jack” was a British soldier renowned for his outlandish battle techniques in World War II. Routinely called mad, Churchill would go into every battle with a Scottish broadsword slung across his back, bagpipes unde r his arms, a longbow, and a quiver with arrows. Churchill joined the army relatively early in his life. He joined the Commandos because it “sounded dangerous,” unsure of what his duties would be. Churchill was put in charge of raiding several German garrisons and became famous for his strategies. While in Poland, Churchill would give the signal to attack by shooting at the enemy commander with his longbow. This marks him as the only known British soldier to have killed an enemy with a longbow throughout the entire war. Churchill also became famous for his routine attack s...

Self Reliant Blindness

The Clip is from the film The Four Feathers, starring Heath Ledger, Wes Bentley, and Kate Hudson. This scene depicts the two main characters Jack (Bentley) and Harry (Ledger) reuniting after a major battle in the Sudan . Jack and Harry are officers in the British Forces and they were ordered to march against the Mahdi armies. Harry overwhelmed by fear, resigned his commission and was discharged before the British Army deployed for the Sudan . As token of his cowardice, his best friends and fiancĂ©e gave him four feathers. Having lost the respect of his peers and being subjected to cruel shunning Harry decides to go to Sudan and watch over his friends. Inevitably a great battle takes place and many of Harry's friends are killed, wounded, and captured. Harry finds Jack, who's eyes have been burned out by a fuse from his rifle. It is in this moment that I found a parable. It is important to know that Jack is a self reliant man. He has earned prestige an...
