Conbra Kai Season 1-3 Review

Major Spoilers!  The Karate Kid was a major hit when it debuted in the 80’s. The bond between Sensei Mr. Miyagi and Daniel Larusso was heart warming as Daniel learned karate via “wax on and wax off.” The franchise featured two sequels with Larusso, The Karate Kid Part II which took place in Okinawa, and The Karate Kid Part III when Daniel goes briefly to the Cobra Side. Miyagi then trained a girl in The Next Karate Kid , and finally Jackie Chan starred in a reboot/ remake of The Karate Kid with Will Smith’s Son. After Chan the series went dormant tell YouTube began filming a series with the original cast of the Karate Kid, this time the perspective would be from the loser of the final round in The Karate Kid Part I, the blond bully Johnny Lawrence played by William Zabrak. The series was titled Cobra Ka i, as Johnny struggling to make ends meet and put his life together decides to revive the dojo and teach a new generation to “Strike First, Strike Hard, and Show No Mercy.” I...

The Rosary

The Rosary is s major form of devotion and prayer in The Roman Catholic Church. Its origin is purported to come from St. Dominic who in a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary was instructed to create the Rosary which consists of beads and a crucifix at the bottom. On the beads a Catholic is suppose to say a Hail Mary Prayer and then on the larger beads, traditionally three, four if you include the Crucifix the Our Father Prayer is invoked.  The prayers of the Rosary are used to deal with venial (minor) and mortal (major) sins, they act as a form of penance, a means of purging sinfulness either in this life or Purgatory where this purging continues for the Catholic. Thus on this theological front the Rosary tramples on Christ, “How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace.” (Hebrews  10:29). The rosary...

The Secret (2006) Exposed

There is this book that became all the rage in 2006 called “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. It is a book and DVD that claims “what you put put into the universe you get back,” and “what you focus on will be drawn to you.” These sayings are New Age and utterly false. Some Christian brothers may be baited into thinking isn’t reaping what you sow similar to these sayings? No it is not. In fact one of the most misquoted Bible verses  is “you reap what you sow.” People equate this saying as something akin to Karma (another false belief), you will get back what you put out into the universe or world, again this is a lie, have you not heard, “every good deed doesn’t go unpunished,”? Its an adage because when a Christian does an act of charity, alms or kindness, the devil seeks to discourage this kind of benevolence, lest Christians and ultimately Christ get glory for it. Instead, often what happens is when we do a good act or act of kindness we become besieged and the immediate reacti...

Pilgrims

One of the most beloved traditions in the church is to make pilgrimages to holy places. The most notable is without a doubt Jerusalem where our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified for our sins and rose from the dead. There are other places of pilgrimage, for example St. James Compostela, a church in Spain that houses the bones of St. James the Apostle, and where many trek to as far as from France on Camino del Santaigo Compestela: Way of St. James Pilgrim Journey. There is the pilgrim path to Canterbury which is chronicled by Geoffrey Chaucer in his Canterbury Tales, and is the place where St. Thomas Beckett’s bones are buried. Beckett defied King Henry II plans to take total autocracy of England, even over the Church, delaying it tell Henry VIII broke away from Roman Church and created the Anglican Church with himself as the Supreme Head. For Eastern Christians a major place of pilgrimage is the Hagia Sophia (Church of Holy Wisdom) in Turkey. The Hagia Sophia once dazzled the world,...

Why Men Are Drawn to Crusaders?

As a Protestant it may seem curious to some why I like Crusaders, their arms and armor, and the history.  For were not the Crusades Catholic wars? What purpose do they serve for us Spirit Filled and Sola Scripture Christians? The truth is that the crusader is romantic because its a man, men at arms displaying pious vigor and zeal to serve God in a way that is masculine. Many examples of holy men today are of silk outfits that look feminine as in High Church leaders, or casual outfits we all wear, wheras the Crusader wears chain mail armor, has a cross emblazoned on the shoulder and or chest and wields a sword.  Men today are starving for masculine and manly role models. We’ve entered an age of drag queen shows and stay at home dads, an era of Amazon, not the online company but the Amazonia when women ruled men. As a result the testosterone had no where to go but images of action heroes, superheroes, warriors, and yes crusaders. Men are seeking an outlet for their manlin...

Why We Have Only 66 Books In The Bible

The Canon of Scripture is often debated. Many who wish to discredit the Bible claim that books were removed wantonly or to suppress deeper truths. These claims are invalid, the councils that canonized Scripture had a very strict criteria for including and excluding books. Let’s examine them.  I. The first criterium for deciding if a book was to be included in canon of Scripture was authentication. Could the author, say for example Paul, be verified to be the author. This was done through three very brilliant ways, the first was to see if the letter or book was in circulation among the churches and thus trusted by the churches addressed by the author such as Paul to be his handiwork.  The second method was to compare the different writings of the writer, again lets use Paul, and see if they sound like the apostle and do they contain patterns of what the writer preached regularly like salvation by grace; if a letter from Paul for example had Paul saying you must be saved ...
